#14 Sonoma State 11, Chaminade 1 (5 innings)
Lipperd was set on cruise control, retiring the first eight batters she faced before plunking Kathleen Nakata in the third inning. After that, she retired the next six Chaminade batters. However, with two outs in the fifth and the Silverswords facing the eight-run mercy rule, Chaminade managed to put a run up on the board without managing a hit. Two throwing errors by
Rochelle Vanyi on two consecutive batters allowed Elise Goodell to score. Lipperd then struck out Nakata to end the game.
Britton went 2-for-2 in the opener, with a double, two RBI and two runs scored.
Ali Palermo,
Simone Brandalise, Vanyi and
Kayla Ledford all had two hits for the Seawolves, who had 13 for the game. Brandalise, Ledford and
Brittany Martinez had two RBI as well -- Martinez had a two run home run in the third, giving SSU the 6-0 lead.
While improving to 15-3 this season, Lipperd recorded her second no-no this season -- the first came in her second ever collegiate appearance on Feb. 10 at Notre Dame de Namur.
