Max Shupe went 7-for-9 at the plate with two doubles, two runs scored, two RBI and a home run in the doubleheader, but Sonoma State couldn't keep host Chico State from scoring runs in bunches as the Wildcats swept the Seawolves, 6-1 and 11-5, on Thursday afternoon at Nettleton Stadium in Chico. With the losses, Sonoma State dropped to 15-19 overall and 8-14 in the CCAA. No. 21 Chico State improved to 22-10 (17-9 CCAA).

The Wildcats' Kevin Seaver gave Chico State the early 1-0 lead with a RBI single, scoring Jason Larson. Sonoma State evened the score at one in the top of the third when Shupe crossed the plate after a RBI single by
Ryan Stevens.
That's when Chico State took advantage of a couple of Seawolf miscues to take a big 5-1 lead. SSU starting pitcher
Ian Ocon gave up four runs (two earned) on four hits and two errors in the bottom half of the third.
Casey Slate relieved Ocon (0-2) in the fourth and went the rest of the way, giving up six hits, but just one run, which came on a suicide squeeze bunt in the fourth to give Chico the 6-1 lead and eventual victory.
Chico State starting pitcher Michael Gleason (5-0) dominated in seven innings of work, despite giving up nine hits. Sonoma State managed only one run as the Seawolves left 10 runners on base, nine of which were in the first seven innings. Jordan Lindebaum and Sheldon Lechuga combined for two innings pitched, scattering just one hit to keep Sonoma State from making a comeback.
Shupe finished game one with three hits. Stevens and
Randy Wells also notched three hits apiece.
Erik Hansen had the other Seawolf hit.

Shupe got the Seawolves an early 1-0 lead with a RBI single, scoring
Brian Wright. However,
Thomas Lee got lit up in the bottom of the first, as he gave up four Wildcat runs including a two RBI triple by Johnny Hay.
The Seawolves scored a run in the third then scored two runs in the fourth to knot the game at 4-4 on a home run by Shupe and RBI singles by Hansen and Wright.
Chico then hopped in the scoring train, adding seven unanswered runs over the next five innings to take a dominating 11-4 lead into the final inning.
Wells scored on a RBI groundout by Hansen in the top of the final frame, but it would be as close as Sonoma State would get, falling 11-5 in the nightcap.
Shupe again had a huge game at the plate with four hits and two RBI, including the solo home run in the third inning. Wright and
Chad Inderwiesche had two hits each for Sonoma State who had 23 total hits in the doubleheader, including 13 in the nightcap. Hansen had two RBI as well.
Thomas Lee (4-3) got the loss for SSU after tossing five innings and giving up 11 hits and eight runs, while striking out six.
Sonoma State and Chico State modified their four-game series this weekend due to rain in Friday's forecast. The series was originally scheduled for one game Thursday, one Friday (both at Chico) and a doubleheader in Rohnert Park on Saturday. Due to forecasted rain on Friday, the two teams decided to play a doubleheader on Thursday. The series now shifts to Rohnert Park for a Saturday doubleheader, first pitch is set for Noon.
