Seawolf Offense Held In Check By Gators Saturday

Bobby Cozine had one of two RBIs for the Seawolves on Saturday.
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif- Bobby Cozine and Joey Parigi had an RBI for Sonoma State, but it would prove to be the only runs that San Francisco State would allow as the Gators swept the Seawolves, 7-2 and 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at Maloney Field. Sonoma State falls to 17-22 overall and 10-17 in the CCAA, dimming the Seawolves' playoff hopes for the first time since 2006. San Francisco State improves to 19-22 (12-15 CCAA).

The Gators got things going in the third inning, thanks to a couple of hits and a couple of errors allowing San Francisco State to score four runs on starting pitcher Scott Alexander. SFSU got two more in the fourth to take the 6-0 lead. Alexander went five innings, giving up five hits, six runs (three earned), four walks while striking out seven.

Sonoma State got on the scoreboard in the fifth when Cozine scored Ryan Morales on a double down the left field line.

Robby White, who relieved Alexander (2-5) in the sixth, allowed a Gator run in the seventh on a RBI single by Greg Kline.

In the ninth, the Seawolves got things going after an inning-opening flyout by Randy Wells. Ryan Stevens and Cameron Cook singled before Parigi scored Stevens on a single up the middle. However, Gator relief pitcher Kyle Mastellar got the final two outs to seal the 7-2 victory for San Francisco State.

Seven different Seawolves had a hit in the ballgame, including Cozine and Parigi's hits. Kline and Brian Bianchi had two hits apiece to pace the Gators. Kline had three RBI.

In the nightcap, Gator pitcher Patrick Haugen shutout the Seawolves, tossing seven complete innings, giving up five hits, walking three and striking out nine Sonoma State batters.

The Seawolves had their chances to score throughout the game as SSU left 10 batters on base. They even loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh, but Haugen forced Stevens to groundout to end the ballgame.

San Francisco State got all four of its runs in the bottom half of the fifth on starting pitcher Kendall Davis via a RBI double by Devon King and a three-run home run by Drew Andersen, all with no outs in the inning. Casey Slate replaced Davis and pitched two innings, scattering two hits.

Offensively, Parigi, Erik Hansen, Kyle Jones, Stevens and Steven Filippi all had hits for Sonoma State in the nightcap.

Sonoma State and San Francisco State will wrap up its four game series on Sunday with a single game at Seawolf Diamond at Rohnert Park, beginning at Noon.
