Seawolves Come Up Short Against Unbeaten Otters

Aly Henington led the Seawolves with 14 points on Saturday evening.
BOX SCORE:  Cal State Monterey Bay 63, Sonoma State 55

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  After digging themselves out of a big early deficit, the Sonoma State women's basketball team played some of their best basketball of the year in a 63-55 loss to undefeated Cal State Monterey Bay.  The Seawolves see their record go to 5-9, 3-7 CCAA while the Otters stay perfect at 14-0, 10-0 CCAA.

From the outset of Saturday night's game, it was obvious why the Otters have gotten out to such a stellar start.  CSUMB raced to a 9-0 lead on their way to a 28-6 advantage by the ten-minute mark of the first half.  Down 30-8 just inside of eight minutes, the Seawolves finally got their engines running.

While the Sonoma offense finally started finding the net, it was the defense that really stood tall, outscoring CSUMB by a score of 18-4 to close out the half down just eight at 34-26.

Sonoma State matched the Otters point for point in the second half, eventually whittling the lead to five on a jumper by Aly Henington with 29 seconds remaining.  Poor free throw shooting by the Otters, who shot just 46.4% (13-for-28) for the game, made things interesting, but a couple of missed shots on their end erased the Seawolves' comeback aspirations.

The Seawolves had three players in double digits, led by Henington's team-high 14.  Aly Conway had 12 points and seven rebounds while Jaclyn Bisordi went for 11.

Cal State Monterey Bay was led by 17 from London Houchin.  No other player was in double digits, though Julie Heurung was solid all-around, finishing with nine points, six rebounds, and three assists.

Saturday's game ends a season-high five-game homestand for the Seawolves.  They will head out on the road next weekend to face Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A. before returning home for another four-game homestand.
