Seawolves Stay Unbeaten With 13-6 Saturday Win

CARSON, Calif-  Behind four hits from Steven Filippi and Alex Todd and a grand slam from O'Koyea Dickson, Sonoma State rolled to a 13-6 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday in Carson.  With with win, the Seawolves have taken the first three games of their series with the Toros, improving to 8-0, 3-0 CCAA on the season.  The Toros drop to 4-6, 0-3 CCAA.  

At 8-0, the Seawolves are off to the best start in school history.  The 2003 squad went 7-0-1 over their first eight games while the 2008 edition won their first six games of the year on their way to a 28-1 start.

After a single run in the first, the Seawolves got starter Kendall Davis a couple more in the second when Todd drove in a pair on a double to left center. 

Sonoma blew things open in the fourth when, following a Filippi RBI single, Dickson blasted a grand slam over the left field fence to make it 8-0.  It was Dickson's fourth home run and second grand slam of the season. 

Cal State Dominguez Hills got back into things with a five-run fourth inning that knocked Davis out of the game, but another big inning by the Seawolves in the sixth put the game out of reach.  Following an RBI single by Todd and a sac fly off the bat of Kyle Jones, Garrett Schwartz plated a run on a fielder's choice and Kyle Cerrudo drove in another on a double down the left field line.

The Seawolves' final run of the game came by way of a Filippi solo home run with two out in the top of the ninth.

The top of the Seawolves' order (Filippi and Todd)  combined to go 8-for-12 with six runs and five RBIs.  Cerrudo also had two hits as the Seawolves came up with 13 hits as a team.

Brian Bordagary picked up the win with a 3.2-inning relief effort that saw him yield just one run and strike out three.  Jayson Richards pitched the final two innings.

Kevin Pillar and Abel Medina each had two hits for the Toros.  Sean Wardour absorbed the loss after surrendering seven runs in three and a third.

The Seawolves will go for the sweep tomorrow morning at 11:00 am.
