Box Score: San Francisco State 43, Sonoma State 39

SAN FRANCISCO- After leading for the entire first half and taking a 27-26 lead into halftime, the Sonoma State women's basketball team was held to just 12 points in the second half as host San Francisco State held on for a low-scoring 43-39 win on Saturday night at The Swamp. The Seawolves (7-17) and Gators (5-19) pull into a tie for eighth place in the CCAA standings at 5-15 with two games left in the regular season.

The Seawolves looked good early on, sprinting out to an 11-point advantage at 25-14 with six minutes left in the opening half. However, the Gators would mount a 12-2 run before halftime to trail by just one after the first 20 minutes of the contest.

Both teams would then trade buckets for the rest of the game, as neither team would lead by more than four points at any given time. With 4:36 remaining in regulaton, Aly Henington would lay the ball in for the 39-38 lead, but it would be the last score of the game for Sonoma State, as San Francisco State scored the final five points of the game to take the victory. A combined 29 points were scored between the two teams in the second half.

Taylor Vigil scored a team-high 11 points and corralled seven rebounds for the Seawolves. Kristina Fahey recorded her first-career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. SSU hit on just 26.3 percent of their shots (15 of 57), but held SFSU to just 28.3 percent (15 of 53). Sonoma State attempted just seven shots from the free throw line, making only five. Meanwhile, SF State converted 13 of 23 shots from the stripe.

For the Gators, Michaela Booker led all scorers with 14 points and Dominique Hunter, the CCAA's best rebounder, came down with 18 boards, 14 of which were on the defensive glass.

With just two games left in the regular season, Sonoma State will return home on Wednesday and Friday to face Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills, respectively. The Seawolves are tied for eighth in the CCAA standings and will need to be in the top eight to qualify for the conference tournament in two weeks. Both games at The Wolves' Den next week will tip off at 5:30 p.m.
