ROHNERT PARK, Calif- In a crazy day, featuring the continuation of an extra inning game that started on Sunday, Rochelle Vanyi ended the marathon with a walkoff home run in the bottom of the 13th before Sonoma State and San Francisco State split the scheduled doubleheader on Monday. With the victory, the Seawolves sit atop the CCAA standings at 7-1 (10-3 overall). The Gators fall to 3-10 and 1-7.

After San Francisco State and Sonoma State deadlocked at 2-2 after 12 innings on Sunday, Vanyi didn't waste any time ending the continuation of the game on Monday morning. She led off the bottom of the 13th and smashed the first pitch she saw over the right field fence, ending the game that finished a day after it started.

She also led off game two of Monday's scheduled doubleheader with a home run to left field, which ties the all-time home run record in SSU softball history. It was her third this season and the 12th of her two-year career.

San Francisco State 4, Sonoma State 3

After the exciting finish to the 13-inning game, game one of Monday's doubleheader began just ten minutes later, and it was the Seawolves who drew first blood. Skylynn Myers laced a single to left field, scoring Kayla Ledford, reached base on a one-out double, for the 1-0 lead.

The visitors came right back in the top half of the second inning, scoring three runs off of SSU starting pitcher Julianne Martinez to take a 3-1 lead. Sonoma State got a run back in their half of the third when Myers again came up big with a RBI double, scoring Vanyi.

Neither team scored in the fourth, but in the fifth, SF State got a very important insurance run when it put runners on the corners with two outs. Lauren Maslak stole second, but Myers' throw down to try and get Maslak went into center field, allowing Kendra Wood to scamper home for the 4-2 lead.

Sonoma State then got runners in scoring position with no outs and Brittanie Verissimo grounded out to the right side of the infield, allowing Tatiana Pizarro to score from third. It would be all the Seawolves could get, as SFSU's Jordan Stanaland, who replaced Marisa Ibarra in the fourth, got out of the jam with just one run allowed.

The Gators threatened for more runs in the seventh, putting runners on the corners with no outs, but J. Martinez forced three consecutive groundouts, ending the threat of more Gator insurance runs. In the bottom of the seventh, the last chance for the Seawolves, Vanyi reached on a fielder's choice and then stole second, putting her in scoring position with one out. However, Vanyi attemped to take third base when she tagged up on a Myers flyout to left field. She was tagged out by third baseman Kelly Mast, ending the game.

J. Martinez (4-2) was tagged with the loss after pitching all seven innings, giving up six hits, four runs (three earned), while walking five and striking out six. Myers had two hits and two RBI for the Seawolves in the loss.

Stanaland (2-0) earned the victory in relief, tossing the final four innings and giving up four hits and one run. She took over for Ibarra, who surrendered four hits and two runs.

Sonoma State 9, San Francisco State 0 (5 innings)

It was all Sonoma State in the nightcap, as Vanyi led off with a solo shot to deep left field, giving Sonoma State the 1-0 lead. It was the start of a huge inning by the Seawolves, who scored five runs in the frame. Myers had a RBI double, Rachel Gaber had a two-RBI single and then Gaber came around to score on a throwing error.

In the second, Ledford smashed a 1-0 pitch deep to left field and over the fence for the 6-0 Seawolf lead. In the third, Ledford hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded, which scored Megan Konieczka. Then, in the fourth, Sonoma State tacked on two more with a RBI by Vanessa Currie and a sac fly RBI by Aly Palermo.

Meanwhile, Samantha Lipperd (5-1) absolutely shut down the Gator offense, allowing just one hit in the four innings she pitched, before giving way to Ciara Becerril in the fifth. Lipperd threw just 33 pitches (30 of them for strikes) while striking out six of the 13 batters she faced. Becerill came in and walked a batter, but a groundout and a game-ending double play helped the Seawolves to a 9-0 shutout victory.

Of the eight hits by Sonoma State in the game, not one person had more than one hit. Ledford and Gaber led the way with two RBI.

Sonoma State will have a short week of practice before heading north to face Humboldt State (7-4, 2-2 CCAA) for a four-game series on Friday and Saturday in Arcata.
