Seawolves Fall To Warriors On Saturday Night

Aly Conway led the Seawolves with 14 points on Saturday night.
Box Score:  Sonoma State 59, Cal State Stanislaus 53

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Despite a spirited effort, the Sonoma State women's basketball team fell short in their comeback attempt against Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday, dropping a 59-53 decision to the Warriors.  The loss leaves the Seawolves at 6-14, 4-12 CCAA while the Warriors improve to 11-9, 9-7 CCAA.

Both teams got out to a frigid start with the game's first basket coming nearly four minutes into the action.  The Warriors would go on an 8-0 run to lead 15-10 midway through the first half before a 9-4 spurt by Sonoma evened things out.  Stanislaus would head into the locker room up 27-22 after hitting their final three shots of the stanza.

The second half started out with the Warriors going on a 6-0 run to build the lead back to 11.  Down, the Seawolves were certainly not out as, in front of an encouraging Wolves' Den crowd, they began their comeback, tying things up on a layup by Aly Conway at the 11:45 mark that capped a 10-0 run.

Conway would then hit a pair of free throws inside a minute later to give the Seawolves their first lead since it was 5-3 in the first moments of the game.

After the lead volleyed back and forth a bit, the Warriors took the lead back with a 7-0 run.  Despite cutting the lead to two, the Seawolves would not lead again as Stanislaus held on for the six-point win.

Sonoma State got a strong performance from Conway, who finished with 14 points and eight rebounds before fouling out late in the second half.  Elizabeth Day and Kristina Fahey each had nine points and Jaclyn Bisordi finished with a game-high four assists.

Despite a slow start, Katie Busi finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead all players in both categories.  Andreanna Marshall had 14 points and six boards.

Neither team would shoot particularly well, the Seawolves finishing at 34.0% and the Warriors at 32.3%.

The Seawolves will now head out on the road for their next four, starting next weekend at Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona.
