SAN FRANCISCO-  San Francisco State rallied for a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth to defeat No. 28 Sonoma State, 5-4, on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a four-game CCAA set.  The Seawolves, who had won the first three games of the series, fall to 26-12, 19-12 CCAA, while the Gators improve to 13-27, 8-24 CCAA.

Randy Wells gave Sonoma State the early 1-0 lead with a RBI single to score Alex Todd in the top of the second. San Francisco State got the run back in their next at bat, though, on a RBI single by Will Klein. The 1-1 score would hold until the fourth when the Gators finally took the lead on another RBI single by Klein.

Down 2-1 in the top of the sixth, Sonoma State finally broke out the bats, plating three runs, including a sacrifice fly by Kyle Jones, a RBI groundout by Kyle Cerrudo and an infield single by Ryan Morales. The Seawolves put starter Thomas Lee in line for the win as he was replaced in the bottom of the sixth by Joey Van Cleave. He would take over with a 4-2 lead, but surrendered a run in his first inning of work despite not giving up a hit in the sixth. Chris Schindler reached base by being hit by Van Cleave's first pitch of the inning, he later stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, then scored on a groundout by Nic Gauldin.

In the bottom of the eighth, Van Cleave loaded the bases with no outs before head coach John Goelz brought in Brian Bordagaray to get out of the jam as Sonoma State led by just one run at 4-3. However, Bordagaray surrendered a sacrifice fly and a RBI single to give the Gators the 5-4 lead.

Jeff Clegg, who came on in relief for SFSU starter Nic Banaugh earlier in the game, allowed Ryan Morales to reach base, leading off the top of the ninth inning. He was pinch ran for by Jackson Stogner, who reached second via a throwing error by the catcher, but was later thrown out at third base to end the game.

Clegg (2-3) gave up just one hit in his final three innings of work and struckout one. Banaugh went six innings, giving up eight hits and four runs while walking two and striking out four.

Van Cleave (2-1) was tagged with the loss after tossing two innings and giving up three runs on two hits. Lee went five innings, allowed five hits, two runs (one earned). He walked two and struckout five.

O'Koyea Dickson, Todd and Morales had two hits each, combining for six of the nine hits by Sonoma State on Sunday afternoon. The Seawolves outhit the Gators, 9-8.

Sonoma State will step outside of conference play to face Patten on Tuesday at Seawolf Diamond in Rohnert Park, starting at 2 p.m. The Seawolves will then take a weekend off before hosting Patten again on Apr. 26 in a doubleheader, beginning at 11 a.m. in Rohnert Park.
