Sonoma State 4, Chaminade 2
Brittany Martinez delivered a bases clearing double with two outs in the first inning, giving Sonoma State the 3-0 lead over Chaminade in the top of the first inning. The three-run cushion didn't last long though, as Chaminade scored two runs, one of which was scored on three straight illegal pitches by
Julianne Martinez. A RBI single accounted for the other run as the Silverswords cut the lead to 3-2.
After the three illegal pitches by J. Martinez, Becerril came in to pitch the rest of the way and gave up five hits, keeping Chaminade off the scoreboard. She allowed five hits and struck out two.
Meanwhile, Chaminade pitcher Kelly Korras kept Sonoma State off the board until the seventh inning when
Rochelle Vanyi smashed a solo shot over the left field fence to put the Seawolves up 4-2. Becerril gave up two hits in the Silverswords' final at bat, but was able to get out of the jam and earn the victory.
B. Martinez went 2 for 4 in the win with the aforementioned three RBI. Seven other Seawolves got base hits to account for nine against Korras. Korras (2-11) walked five and struckout one.
Sonoma State 7, Dixie State 0
After two scoreless innings to start the game, Sonoma State finally broke through with four runs in the third on RBI singles by Danielle D'Eccliss and
Skylynn Myers, followed by a RBI double by Vanyi. The Seawolves tacked on three more runs in the fourth to take a comforting 7-0 lead via a two-run double by
Kayla Ledford and a bases loaded walk to
Danielle Lowe.
In the pitching circle,
Samantha Lipperd tossed the first three innings and didn't allow a hit before being relieved by Becerril. The freshman came in and allowed just one hit in the ball game, an infield single tapped down the third base line in front of
Brittanie Verissimo. Like J. Martinez, Lipperd struggled with illegal pitches and ended up walking five batters, but struckout seven of the 14 batters she faced. Becerril struck out one in earning her second victory of the day.
Ledford, D'Eccliss and
Vanessa Currie had two hits each to lead the Seawolf offense.
Notre Dame de Namur 3, Sonoma State 2 (8 innings)
Like in the first two games of the day, the Seawolves drew first blood, scoring a run on a bases loaded walk to Verissimo, but it would be all Sonoma State would get in the first, leaving all three runners on base. D'Eccliss tacked on a run in the second with a RBI single to lead 2-0.
Notre Dame de Namur got a run back in the third when they scored on a wild pitch by Lipperd. The Argonauts looked to have taken a 3-2 lead on a home run by Emily Castro, but left fielder Currie robbed the sure home run end the inning and keep the Seawolves up 2-1.
Both teams remained scoreless despite several scoring chances, but the Argonauts finally knotted the game in their last at bat to force extra innings and the implementation of the international tie breaking rule.
Sonoma State had a shot to take the lead in the eighth with runners on first and second with no one out, but NDNU pitcher Sammy McConvey (7-7) pitched herself out of the jam.
It was in the bottom of the eighth when Robin Araujo singled to bring home the game winner off Becerril (3-3), her first loss in three games on the day. She replaced Lipperd in the fourth.
D'Eccliss and Ledford had two hits apiece, accounting for four of the six Sonoma State hits in the ballgame.
