Game One Box: No. 19 Sonoma St. 2, Cal St. Stanislaus 1 (10 inn.)
Game Two Box: No. 19 Sonoma St. 4, Cal St. Stanislaus 1
ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Sonoma State used stellar pitching and just enough hitting on Sunday afternoon to sweep a CCAA twinbill from Cal State Stanislaus at Seawolf Diamond. The 19th-ranked Seawolves won by scores of 2-1 and 4-1 to improve to 20-7, 13-7 CCAA on the season. The Warriors fall to 18-11, 12-11 CCAA.
Game One: Arnerich Awesome In Ten-Inning Victory
Kenny Arnerich went the distance, and then some, to guide Sonoma State to a 2-1, 10-inning victory in the opener. The senior allowed just six hits and one unearned run, while striking out ten and walking one. The win upped the righthander's record to 5-0 on the season and dropped his ERA to 1.80.
The Warriors got their only run of the game in the third inning when Thomas Shull drove in Zach Cadet on a single to left field. Cadet, who got on base through a fielder's choice, was in scoring position because of an error on an attempted double play.
The Seawolves answered the Warriors with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning when O'Koyea Dickson scored
Max Kirk on a single to left.
The score would stay tied at 1-1, though both teams had opportunities to take the lead. Both starting pitchers were excellent, with Stanislaus' Vinny Pacchetti allowing just four hits and no earned runs in 6 2/3, despite a bloated pitch count (137 pitches).
Sonoma State finally busted through in the tenth inning when,
Alex Todd singled with one out and proceeded to score on a
Kyle Cerrudo single to right.
Cerrudo had two hits to lead the Seawolves' seven hit attack. Ross Gonzalves was 2 for 4 to pace the Warriors. Leonard Giammanco was tagged with the loss after surrendering the winning run.
Game Two: Cramer's Double The Difference In 4-1 Nightcap Win
Behind a nice effort from
Kendall Davis and a bases clearing double by
Kevin Cramer, the Seawolves completed the sweep with a 4-1 win in game two.
Neither team got much going on offense in the first three innings. In the fourth, Sonoma put together a rally that was aided by a hit batsmen and a walk. Following an RBI single by
Kyle Jones, Cramer strolled to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs and smashed a double to the gap in left center, extending the Seawolves' lead to 4-0.
Stanislaus would rally for one run off Davis, but the senior righthander was masterful, scattering three hits and walking none in 6 1/3 innings. He would not walk a batter as he picked up his first win of the year.
Joey Van Cleave came in for the final two outs and earned his fourth save of the year.
Outside of the shaky fourth inning, Chris Short pitched rather well for Stanislaus, yielding five hits and striking out six in a complete game, six-inning effort.
The Seawolves got each of their five hits from a different batter. The same was true for the Warriors and their three hits.
Up Next: Back To Turlock For Monday's Finale
The teams will head back to the Central Valley tomorrow to conclude the series with a 3:00 single game.
