Lipperd didn't allow a hit until the bottom of the fourth inning when Jamie Leffingwell doubled down the left field line. She was left on base, though, and the game remained scoreless. However, an inning later, the Coyotes' Britney Butler walked to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Courtney Wilhelms. Alyssa Flores came up to the plate and delivered a RBI single that scored Butler from second, who beat a great throw from center fielder Danielle D'Eccliss.
Those two Cal State San Bernardino hits, paired with three walks, the Coyotes didn't threaten for the remainder of the game.
Meanwhile, the Sonoma State offense had plenty of chances to score, the first opportunity came in the second.
Danielle Lowe moved over to third base on a sacrifice bunt by
Ali Palermo with two outs, but CSUSB's Cassidy Lee pitched out the jam, getting
Brittanie Verissimo to fly out to right field.
In the top of the fourth, after a walk to
Vanessa Currie, Palermo singled to put runners on the corners with two outs, but Lee again got Verissimo to fly out to end the inning. In the fifth,
Jesse Talaugon singled to center field and then advanced to second on a single by
Skylynn Myers a couple of batters later. With runners on first and second,
Rochelle Vanyi poked a single to center and on Talaugon's attempt for home, she was thrown out by the center fielder Jacqueline Holtzclaw.
It was the last threat for Sonoma State as Lee retired the final seven batters in order to end the game. The Seawolves stranded seven runners on base in the ballgame.
Lipperd (26-9) was tagged with the loss after allowing just the two hits and one run. She walked three and struckout three. Lee (16-8) walked two and struckout one while scattering the six SSU hits.
