CHICO, Calif-  Sonoma State put the finishing touches on their regular season schedule on Sunday afternoon by splitting a doubleheader at No. 27 Chico State.  The Seawolves pounded the Wildcats 12-2 in the opener before falling in the nightcap, 9-4.  Sunday's results gave the Seawolves a series win over their longtime rivals, three games to one.

Sonoma State concludes the regular season at 33-17, 24-16 CCAA.  Chico State goes to 29-18, 23-17 in CCAA play.

If four games in three days against Chico State just isn't enough, fear not, Sonoma will open the 2011 CCAA Championship Tournament against the Wildcats on Thursday in Stockton.  The Seawolves earned the No. 2 seed by finishing one game ahead of the third-place Wildcats in the CCAA standings.

After three scoreless innings, Sonoma State broke through with a run in the fourth on a RBI single up the middle by Kyle Jones, scoring Alex Todd from second base. The Seawolves tacked on three more runs in the fifth when O'Koyea Dickson doubled home two runs and Todd singled home Dickson, giving SSU the 4-0 lead. One more run came across the plate in the sixth on a RBI single by Steven Filippi before Sonoma State unleashed on the Chico State pitching staff, plating seven runs in the seventh inning to lead 12-0.

The Wildcats finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh when they loaded the bases and Joey Van Cleave hit Cody Foster to force a run home. It was the only mistake by Van Cleave (4-1), as he tossed seven innings, giving up just five hits, two of which came in his final inning of work, and the one run to earn the victory.

Chico State got another run in the ninth off reliever Mark Lincoln, a RBI single by Adrian Bringas, but it wouldn't be enough as Sonoma State earned its third straight victory over the No. 27 team in the nation.

Dickson and Todd had three hits apiece and both scored a pair of runs. Cameron Cook had two hits and scored two runs and Filippi also had two hits, but with three RBI and a run scored.

The Wildcats' Kevin Brahney (2-5) was tagged with the loss after giving up four hits and four runs in his five innings of work. Bringas had two of the nine Chico State hits in the contest, but Sonoma State outhit the hosts, 13-9.

Losers in nine of the its last 10 games, Chico State came back in the nightcap with fury. After scoring a pair of runs in the bottom half of the first, the Wildcats allowed a pair of RBI from Matthew Campbell and #Ian Cook in the fourth.

That's when Chico State broke out of its slump, plating five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a large 7-2 lead. Another two runs came in during the bottom of the fifth inning, putting the Wildcats up 9-2.

Sonoma State would make its comeback in the top of the seventh when Garrett Schwartz singled home Jackson Stogner to cut the Chico State lead to six. Kyle Cerrudo then reached on a fielding error by the short stop T.J. Yasuhara, allowing Schwartz to score and the score would then be 9-4.

However, Sheldon Lechuga pitched himself out of the jam and ended the Wildcats' misery, winning just their second game in 11 tries.
