TURLOCK, Calif-  The Sonoma State women's basketball team ran their winning streak to a season-best three in a row on Saturday night with a 56-51 win over Cal State Stanislaus at the Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena in Turlock.  The Seawolves never trailed as they improve to 8-10, 6-8 CCAA, boosting their postseason hopes in the process.  The Warriors, despite a spirited effort, dropped to 5-13, 2-12 CCAA.

The Seawolves are now alone in seventh place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).  A top eight standing at the end of the regular season will punch their ticket to the conference playoffs for the second straight year.

For the second night in a row, the Seawolves came out with a smothering defensive performance.  Sonoma held a high-powered Chico State offense to just 16 points in the first half on Friday and neared that effort by allowing just 19 to the Warriors on Saturday.

Though the Seawolves would surge to a big early lead, 17-6 in the first ten minutes, the Warriors refused to go away, beginning a pattern that would persist throughout the night.

In the second half, the Warriors used a 6-0 run to tie the game at 32 with 14:40 left.  The Seawolves answered with five straight of their own, only to see the Warriors get the deficit back to one on two occasions.

Stanislaus whittled the lead to two at 47-45 with 6:21 remaining, but once again, the Seawolves marched on, throwing down five consecutive points to give them a cushion they'd rely on in the game's waning moments.

Up five thanks to a Taylor Vigil layup with 1:27 left, the Seawolves watched the Warriors score what would be their final basket, on a layup by Devin Brown with 27 ticks left.

Stanislaus had one last chance to tie it up when Jamiez Terrell launched a three-pointer with 11 seconds to go, but her shot clanked off the iron and the rebound was gobbled up by Jaclyn Bisordi, who nailed two free throws to put the game on ice.

Aly Conway used a big first half to finish with 13 points and five rebounds.  Bisordi, on the other hand, did most of her damage in the second, also finishing with 13 points.  Marie Sweet had a nice all-around effort with six points, four rebounds, and four assists in 27 minutes.

The Seawolves shot 40.7% from the field, but hit just one three-pointer in seven attempts.  Rebounds were nearly even (34-32 in Sonoma's favor) and the Warriors turned the ball over more (16-12).

Jameiz Terrell would lead all scorers with 16 points for Cal State Stanislaus.  Lauren Godde had 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Coupled with last weekend's win on the road at Cal State San Bernardino, the Seawolves have won three straight.  They'll try to keep their run going next weekend when they host Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay.  The Seawolves will play six of their final eight games within the friendly confines of The Wolves' Den.
