GNAC/CCAA CHALLENGE RECAP:  Sonoma State took on regional opponents in Seattle Pacific and Western Washington as part of the GNAC/CCAA Challenge, hosted by Chico State.  On Dec. 7, the Seawolves were unable to sustain a comeback, taking the eventual 78-57 loss.  However, the Seawolves would not let the loss hinder them, storming back to pull off an upset over No. 6 Western Washington, 68-63.

SCOUTING DOMINICAN:  The Penguins are currently sporting a 2-7 overall record through their first nine games, including a 1-1 mark in Pacific West Conference games.  Dominican is 1-3 against CCAA teams this season, playing the likes of Cal State East Bay, Humboldt State, San Francisco State and beating Cal State Stanislaus, 93-91.  The Penguins have yet to be victorious against the Seawolves, as SSU holds the all-time series record with 16-0 edge, dating back to 1986.  Sophomore center Sarah Nelson currently is averaging a team-leading 11.1 points per game, and is 0.4 rebounds away from averaging a double-double, collecting a team-leading 86 rebounds.  In Dominican's win over Cal State Stanislaus on Nov. 17, Nelson scored a season high 26 points, while grabbing 13 rebounds.  This game was one of three double-doubles for Nelson on the season.

UPSET CITY, BABY!:  Saturday's upset victory over No. 6 Western Washington was the first win for Sonoma State over the Vikings since Dec. 8, 2007, when the Seawolves pulled off the 62-49 victory in Seattle.  The win improves SSU to 6-12 against opponents ranked in the Top 10, and 14-41 against teams in the top 25.  Also, this marks the second win for the Seawolves against the Vikings, both wins coming in the last five years.  Senior guards Taylor Vigil and Marie Sweet stepped up for the Seawolves in the win, both able to drop in 12 points.  Bronte Sheahan also pitched in with 10 points of her own.  Vigil also led the team with six rebounds in the win and was later named to the All-tournament Team, throwing in 23 total points, dishing out five total assists and recording eight rebounds.

DOMINICAN, WHO?:  Sonoma State and Dominican have not met up since the 2007-08 season when the Seawolves upended the Penguins, 68-50, behind a 19-point, 12-rebound performance by Danae Wellander.  In fact, this will be the first time that every player, on either team, has played each other in a collegiate game.  Head coach Mark Rigby is 5-0 against Dominican in his tenure at Sonoma State.

SEAWOLVES' NOTES:  Taylor Vigil continues to lead the Seawolves in scoring at 11.0 points per game and Kristina Fahey is the next closest at 7.0 points per game, after she dropped in 14 points against Seattle Pacific, which bolstered her average ... With a record of 2-2 in conference play, the Seawolves sit in eighth place in the CCAA standings ... This game will be the final for the women's team of the 2012 calendar year and will open 2013 with conference games against Northern California rivals Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus on Jan. 4-5 in Chico and Turlock, respectively.
