ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- Jackson Stogner went 3 for 4 and had a pair of RBIs, both of which came in an explosive seven-run fourth inning in game one, helping Sonoma State to its first home victory of the season; an 8-5 win over 25th-ranked Western Oregon on Friday at Seawolf Diamond in Rohnert Park.  The Seawolves (2-4), however, suffered a 6-1 loss in the nightcap, their fourth in the five-game series against the visiting Wolves (7-2) this week.

Game One: Sonoma State 8, #25 Western Oregon 5

The Seawolves didn't take long to claim their first lead of the series, despite being faced with two quick outs in their bottom half of the first.  Steven Filippi staved off a 2-2 count and smacked a double down the right field line before  scoring on a single by Garrett Gooselaw.

Meanwhile, Harmen Sidhu took care of business on the mound, allowing just two hits by Western Oregon batters in his six innings of work, striking out seven others.

It was in the bottom half of the fourth inning that the Sonoma State bats finally came alive.  The Seawolves sent 12 hitters to the plate in the frame, starting with five straight hits.  Gooselaw singled, Devon Zenn doubled, Paul Anaya singled, Scott Templeton singled, Stogner doubled, Danny Dworkin singled, Gooselaw singled (again) and Zenn had an groundout to bring home a run, accounting for the seven runs to put the Seawolves up 8-0 over the Wolves, who had outscored the hosts 26-3 in the first three games of the series.

The nationally-ranked Western Oregon squad from Monmouth, Ore., wouldn't go away silently, though.  David Amberson blasted a two-run shot to left center field in the eighth to cut the lead to 8-2.  In the ninth, the Wolves continued the momentum with a leadoff triple by Blake Miller, followed by an RBI ground-rule double by Scott David.  After a pair of strikeouts and a walk by Michael Garber, who relieved Sidhu (1-0) in the seventh, the Seawolves were faced with a two-out, bases-loaded situation.  Quinn Naughtin came through with a pinch-hit two-RBI single to put WOU within three runs at 8-5.  Garber held strong, however, and struckout AJ Royal to end the threat, the game and earn his first save of the season -- the rare three-inning save.  He ended his day giving up six hits, the aforementioned five runs, he walked three and earned eight of the nine outs he worked via the strikeout.

Stogner, Gooselaw and Joel Thys all had three hits apiece to pace Sonoma State, which tallied 16 total hits in the ballgame.

Western Oregon's Kirk Lind (1-1) was tagged with the loss, allowing 10 hits and seven runs before being pulled amidst the seven-run fourth inning by SSU.  Miller had two hits for WOU.

Game Two:  #25 Western Oregon 6, Sonoma State 1

Reminiscent of the first three games of the series, the Wolves scored early and they scored often.  SSU starter Ian Ocon held the powerful WOU bats silent until the third when the Wolves tagged Ocon with four hits and three runs before giving way to Mike Guglielmo.  Guglielmo came in to strikeout his first batter to end the third, but allowed a run in the fourth and two more in the sixth, putting the Seawolves behind, 6-0.

In the bottom half of the sixth, Marcus Kimura came in off the bench to poke a single through the right side before eventually making it all the way to third base after a stolen base and an advancement on a ground ball to the right side of the infield.  It was Filippi that brought Kimura home, but it would be all of the offense that Western Oregon would allow the rest of the way, securing its fourth win over Sonoma State in the five-game series.

The hosts only got four hits in the game, all off of Burke, who tossed six innings and struckout four.  Tyson Flannery came in to close out the deal in the seventh.

Sonoma State will begin CCAA play next weekend when it heads to Cal State San Bernardino for a four-game series with the Coyotes in San Bernardino, starting next Friday.
