SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.-  Junior Devon Zenn had five hits, including a pair of home runs, and six runs batted in to lead Sonoma State to an 11-8 win over Cal State San Bernardino in the opener of the season's first CCAA series on Friday in San Bernardino.  After a sluggish offensive start to the season, the Seawolves busted out with 16 hits and three homers as they improve to 3-4, 1-0 CCAA on the season.  The Coyotes drop to 3-3, 0-1 CCAA.

Zenn's five-hit outburst was the Seawolves' first in nearly three years.  The last Sonoma State player to have five hits in a game was Jacob Fissh, who went 5-for-6 in a win over Cal State Monterey Bay on March 13, 2009.  Over the course of the Friday's game, Zenn raised his batting average from .267 to .450.

The Seawolves picked up the game's first run in the top of the first, when Zenn drove in Danny Dworkin with a single.  The game would stay 1-0 until the fifth, when the Seawolves singled six times and scored four runs.  Zenn was again in the middle of the action, plating two with a single to left.

Sonoma put up three more runs in the eighth.  Following a solo homer by Zenn, Paul Anaya singled, then came around to score on a two-run blast from Scott Templeton.  With the lead pushed to 8-0, the Seawolves surrendered one run in the bottom of the eighth to make it 8-1.

In the ninth, Zenn struck again.  Following a double by Steven Filippi and a single by Jeff Johnson, Zenn hammered a shot over the center field wall to make it 11-1.

Unfortunately for the Seawolves, the game wouldn't end without a bit of uneasiness.  Two singles, a walk, and a pair of home runs made the score 11-6 before an out was retired in the ninth.  Following a pair of strikeouts, the Coyotes used two singles and two errors to pull within three runs before Michael Garber struck out Eric Dow to end the seven-run inning, and the game.

Zenn wasn't the only Seawolf to excel at the plate on Friday.  Danny Dworkin, Steven Filippi, Anaya, and Justin Serrao each had two hits for Sonoma State as they tied their season-high for hits in a game.

Perhaps lost in a game that featured 19 runs was an outstanding start by senior ace Thomas Lee.  The Bakersfield native, making his first start of the season, scattered just three hits over seven innings while allowing one run and striking out seven.  He improves to 2-0 on the season.

Edwin Mendoza and Brandon Day each had two hits for Cal State San Bernardino.

Games two and three of the four-game series will be played on Saturday in San Bernardino.
