HAYWARD, Calif.-  Garrett Gooselaw stayed hot, blasting his third and fourth home runs in the past four games to lead Sonoma State to an emphatic 10-2 win over Cal State East Bay in the opener of their CCAA baseball series on Friday in Hayward.  The Seawolves didn't stop there as hurlers Taylor Herbert and Michael Garber spun a shutout to give Sonoma a 1-0 win in the nightcap and a doubleheader sweep.  The wins push the Seawolves to 6-6 overall and 4-2 in conference play.  The Pioneers drop to 5-6, 0-2 CCAA.

Game One:  Gooselaw Goes Yard Twice To Lead Seawolves In Romp

Friday's opener saw the Pioneers grab the early lead when Brett Hall doubled, then came around to score on an error by starting pitcher Thomas Lee.  From that point on, though, Lee would be fantastic, allowing just one other run in eight innings, while striking out four and walking none.  He improved to 3-0 on the season.

After two scoreless innings, the Seawolves' offense snapped to life in the third when Gooselaw hit the first of his home runs, a two-run shot that also scored Steven Filippi.  The Seawolves pushed their lead to 3-1 in the fifth when Filippi singled in a run.

Three more Sonoma runs crossed the plate in the sixth inning, one of them on a bases loaded walk to Justin Serrao and two on a single by Jackson Stogner.  The game was blown open in the ninth when the Seawolves scored four more times, two of them on Gooselaw's second homer of the game, and fourth of the year.  Serrao also had an RBI double and Joel Thys supplied an RBI triple down the left field line.

Gooselaw finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBIs.  Sonoma also got two hits from Stogner and Filippi.  In all, the Seawolves collected 11 hits in the game.

Game Two:  Herbert and Garber Combine To Quiet Pioneers Bats As Seawolves Earn Sweep

After giving up ten runs in the first game of Friday's doubleheader, the Cal State East Bay pitching staff did an outstanding job keeping the Sonoma offense in check in game two.  Unfortunately for them, Taylor Herbert and Michael Garber were even better.

Both teams were held scoreless through seven innings as AJ Gallardo and Herbert were locked in a tremendous pitching duel.  In the top of the eight- the game was scheduled for seven- Justin Serrao reached on an error by the Pioneer third baseman, advancing all the way to second.  The next batter, Jackson Stogner, singled to center to score Serrao and give the Seawolves what would turn out to be the game's only run.

After five and a third scoreless innings, Herbert gave way to Garber, who was just as dominating.  Garber allowed just two hits in two and a third to earn the victory.  In total, the Seawolf pitchers allowed just seven hits and three walks to the Pioneers.

Sonoma State could manage just five hits- all singles- against Gallardo and the Pioneer reliever Zachary Wong.  Two of them came off the bat of Jeff Johnson

Up Next:  The Seawolves and Pioneers will move the series to Seawolf Diamond for a doubleheader on Saturday.  First pitch is set for 11:00 am and, as always, you can listen to the action live on the Seawolf Sports Network.
