SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- With just 14 conference games left to play heading into Monday's rescheduled doubleheader at Cal State San Bernardino, the Sonoma State softball team knew it needed to begin making up some ground in the standings in order to qualify for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Softball Championship Tournament and defend its last two titles.  The Seawolves made it clear that they're ready to make another run.  After a 7-0 victory in game one, SSU came back and earned a mercy rule-shortened 10-2 win in game two, sweeping the Coyotes in San Bernardino to improve to 20-13 overall and 12-12 in the CCAA.  Cal State San Bernardino fell to 13-20 (9-15 CCAA).

Game One:  Sonoma State 7, Cal State San Bernardino 0 -- Box Score

After a pair of scoreless innings to start the game, Sonoma State broke out the bats and drew first blood, plating three runs in the top of the third inning.  It began with a leadoff walk to Vanessa Currie, then a single by Skylynn Myers.  After a wild pitch moved both Currie and Myers into scoring position, Ali Palermo delivered a two-RBI double to left field to give SSU the 2-0 lead.  Samantha Beauchamp came up two batters later with an RBI double of her own, scoring Palermo.  The third inning would end with the Seawolves up three runs, but the offense would continue in the top of the fourth.

Danielle D'Eccliss and Shannon Kehr got on base with a single and a walk, respectively, before Samantha Lepp brought them home on a single to center field, putting Sonoma State up 5-0.  Myers gave the Seawolves another run with an RBI double to score Lepp and give SSU a six-run advantage.

Another Seawolf run would come across the plate in the seventh when, in a first and third situation, Hayley Condon scored while D'Eccliss was thrown out attempting to steal second.  It would, however, put the visitors up 7-0, which would prove to be the final score, despite allowing a leadoff walk to the Coyotes in their final offensive opportunity.

In the pitching circle, Samantha Lipperd and Ciara Becerril combined to allow just three Cal State San Bernardino hits the entire ballgame, two of which came in the first two innings.  Lipperd got the victory, improving to 14-6 this season.  She allowed two of the three hits in her five innings of work, while walking three and striking out five.  Becerril came on in the sixth and give up the only other CSUSB hit, but kept the shutout in tact.

D'Eccliss led Sonoma State offensively, going 3 for 4 with a run scored.  Lepp and Palermo both had two hits with two RBI and a run scored, Myers went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run and Condon also added two hits and a run in the victory.

Carly Land (5-9) was tagged with the loss for Cal State San Bernardino, giving up 13 hits in seven innings.  Charlotte Galzote accounted for two of the Coyotes' three hits in the contest

Game Two:  Sonoma State 10, Cal State San Bernardino 2 -- Box Score

The Seawolves would continue the offense in game two, plating the first run of the game on a suicide squeeze bunt by Currie, scoring Kehr, who walked to leadoff the game.

Cal State San Bernardino managed two score a couple of runs in its half of the first inning to take a 2-1 lead, but Lipperd settled down and kept the Coyotes from scoring for the duration of the afternoon.

With that said, Sonoma State kept the runs coming across the plate, again taking the lead in its next at bat.  With Megan Konieczka on second base and two outs, Condon came through with an RBI single, then scored, along with D'Eccliss, on a two-RBI single by Lepp to put the Seawolves up 4-2.

After a scoreless third inning, SSU plated two more runs in the fourth, thanks to a Condon two-run home run.  A frame later and the bases loaded, Konieczka put the ballgame out of reach by blasting a grand slam to left field, giving the Seawolves a 10-2 lead.

With just three outs away from inducing the eight-run mercy rule, Lipperd (15-6) blew threw her final three batters, earning her second win of the day.  She allowed four hits and struckout five in the complete-game victory.  Offensively, Condon was 2 for 3 with three RBI's and two runs scored and Konieczka was also 2 for 3 with the aforementioned grand slam.

Britney Butler recorded two hits and two RBI's for Cal State San Bernardino.  Abreanna Landeros (5-4) was given the loss, allowing eight SSU hits and 10 runs (all earned).

Sonoma State will step out of CCAA competition to participate in the annual Tournament of Champions, presented by Mizuno, hosted by Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  The Seawolves will open up the tournament on Friday at 6:00 p.m. against Notre Dame de Namur.  For a complete TOC schedule, visit warriorathletics.com/toc.  Live stats will be available for all of SSU's games this upcoming weekend by clicking here or visiting the softball schedule page at sonomaseawolves.com/softball.
