SAN FRANCISCO -- Samantha Lipperd continued to dominate her opponents on Friday, striking out 28 batters, including 17 in game two, and Hayley Condon had five hits and four runs batted in, helping the Sonoma State softball team to a pair of shutout victories over host San Francisco State by scores of 3-0 and 5-0.  The Seawolves (33-17) have won six straight games and improve to 19-15 in the CCAA.  The Gators, meanwhile, fall to 17-33 (9-25 CCAA).

Lipperd now holds the program's single-season wins record, improving to 28-10 as the pitcher of record this season, and with 28 strikeouts in Friday's doubleheader, she continues to lead the nation (across all divisions) in strikeouts with 360 this season (and 824 in her career).

It was released on Wednesday that Sonoma State, despite last weekend's sweep of Cal State Stanislaus, fell to No. 7 in the official NCAA west region rankings.  The Seawolves will have a week off from competition, due to not qualifying for next weekend's CCAA tournament in Stockton, and will find out their NCAA playoff fate via a live selection show at NCAA.com on Monday, Apr. 30 at 7:00 a.m.  SSU will need to be one of the top eight teams in the region to play in its fourth consecutive NCAA tournament.

Game 1:  Sonoma State 3, San Francisco State 0

While Lipperd cruised through the Gator lineup, allowing just four base runners and fanning 11 batters, the Seawolves gave her some early run support, plating a run almost immediately.  Ancia Purdy reached on an infield single to start the game before stealing second base.  Condon came up and delivered an RBI single through the right side, scoring Purdy from second for the 1-0 lead.

Purdy and Condon would team up to plate run for Sonoma State in the third, when Condon again poked one through the right side to bring home Purdy from second.  Purdy came around to score again in the fifth inning after a one-out double, a stolen base and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Vanessa Currie to put the Seawolves up 3-0.

Lipperd took care of business, as usual, striking out 11 batters, the 16th time this season that she has fanned 10 or more in a game.  She gave up three hits and walked one.  None of the four base runners advanced beyond second base.

Offensively, the Seawolves pounded out eight hits, three coming from Purdy and three from Condon; Skylynn Myers accounted for the other two.  It wasn't easy, however, as SF State's Marisa Ibarra (7-11) struckout nine SSU hitters and did not allow a walk.

Game 2:  Sonoma State 5, San Francisco State 0

It was an all-around effort for Sonoma State in game two; the offense scattered 15 hits and scored five runs while Lipperd struckout 17 of the 27 batters she faced, continuing to keep SF State off balance at the plate.

After a scoreless first inning, the Seawolves brought in a pair of runs on two separate sacrifice flies by Myers and Keisi Chinen.  Another run came home in the fourth on another RBI by Chinen, a single to right field, scoring Ali Palermo.  Then, in the fifth, Condon smacked a two-run double to put Sonoma State up 5-0.

It would prove to be the final score, but not without some late-inning threats by the Gators.  Lipperd gave up a leadoff double in the bottom of the seventh inning to Kelly Mast and Heather Jensen, who came into run for Mast, stole third, still with no outs in the inning.  However, that's when Lipperd is at her best, under pressure, as she went on to strikeout the next three batters to end the game.

Lipperd gave up five hits and two walks, but no runs would cross the plate during her 17-strikeout performance in Friday's nightcap.

Palermo went 3 for 4 with two runs scored, Purdy, Condon, Myers and Megan Konieczka each had two hits apiece to lead the offensive attack for Sonoma State against SFSU starter Becky Nakano (6-9), who went the distance in the circle for the Gators.

Sonoma State and San Francisco State will end the 2012 regular season with a doubleheader on Saturday.  First pitch from San Francisco is set for 12:00 p.m.  After Saturday's twinbill, the Seawolves will have a week off before they find out their NCAA playoff fate.  The tournament field will be selected via a live broadcast at NCAA.com on Monday, Apr. 30 at 7:00 a.m.
