ROHNERT PARK --
Brianna Burgos came off the bench to score a team-high 12 points in just 18 minutes of play, but the Sonoma State women's basketball team suffered a 64-46 loss to visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday night at The Wolves' Den.  It is the fourth straight loss the Seawolves (4-8 overall), who fall to 2-6 in the CCAA.  The Toros, meanwhile, improve to 4-8 and 3-5 in conference action.

The first half would feature tightly-contested play by both teams, as neither team led by more than three points at any point until the Seawolves claimed a five-point lead on a pair of occasions, the last being a 17-12 advantage with 11:32 to play before halftime.  The Toros came storming back to score seven unanswered points to regain the lead at 19-17 two minutes later.  Both teams traded scoring possessions before Cal State Dominguez Hills would go on a 14-2 run over the final 4:36 to close out the half and lead Sonoma State by 11 points at 34-23.

It was the play of the Toros' Monay Lee that kept CSUDH in control for much of the half; she accounted for half of her team's 34 points (17) in the opening period, draining 7 of 11 shots from the floor.  Meanwhile, Kristina Fahey netted nine points to lead the Seawolves in the half while no other SSU player scored more than four.  Sonoma went just 9 of 26 (34.6 percent) from the hardwood.

The Cal State Dominguez Hills lead would remain at double-digits the rest of the way, with the exception of a layup by Brianna Burgos and a free throw by Travis Newman that cut the Sonoma State deficit to eight points at 41-33 with 11:59 left.  However, a made jumper by CSUDH's Julia Poecksteiner increased the the Toro lead to 10 and it would never get any less than that.  The visitors eventually led by as much as 25 with 2:49 left in regulation before the game would end in an 18-point loss for SSU.

Burgos scored all of her points in the second half while Fahey, who led the way with nine points in the first half, was held scoreless in the final 20 minutes.  No other Seawolf scored more than four points as the Toros held the hosts to just 28.6 percent shooting from the floor (16-56) and 3 of 19 from beyond the arc.

Cal State Dominguez Hills was led by the 29 points of Lee, who connected on 12 of 17 on Saturday.  Poecksteiner followed with 17 as the two combined to score as many points as the entire SSU squad.  The Toros hit 41.5 percent of their attempted shots (27-65).

Sonoma State will hit the road for a brief two-game road trip, beginning with a Thursday night matchup at Cal Poly Pomona.  Tip off from Kellogg Gym in Pomona is set for 5:30 p.m.  The Seawolves will then head north to Arcata next Saturday to face Humboldt State before returning home on Jan. 25 to host Cal State San Bernardino.
