TURLOCK, Calif. --
Taylor Vigil recorded team-highs of 17 points on 8 of 12 shooting and five steals in 34 minutes of play and three others chipped in with double-digit efforts in the point column, but the Sonoma State women's basketball team suffered a 72-65 loss to host Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday night at Fitzpatrick Arena in Turlock.

It is only the second win of the season for the Warriors (2-9, 1-5 CCAA), and their first in conference play.  The Seawolves drop to 4-6 overall and 2-4 in CCAA action.

Vigil connected on 8 of 12 from the hardwood to tally her aforementioned 17 points, however, the rest of the team combined to go just 18 for 51 (35.2 percent) on offense.  Sonoma held the advantage in nearly every statistical category, including rebounds (34-31), assists (20-14) and steals (11-8) while committing less turnovers (20-16), but the Seawolves couldn't contain Cal State Stanislaus' Lauren Godde, who torched the nets for a game-high 28 points on 8 of 16 shooting, in addition to an 11 for 14 effort at the free throw line.  Briana Cotton came off the bench to score 15 points in 14 minutes of play, including four three-pointers, followed by 13 points by Devin Brown.  The Warriors hit an even 50 percent from the floor (25-50), draining 8 of 17 from long range.

The Seawolves got off to a quick start, scoring the first five points of the game; it would end up being their largest lead of the night.  A layup by Kristina Fahey at the 14:06 mark of the first half put SSU up 9-6, but the Warriors went on a 10-0 run over the next five minutes to take a 16-9 lead.  Sonoma would chip away at its deficit before taking another lead on a made lay-in by Bronte Sheahan with 53 seconds left in the opening period, putting the visitors up by one at 24-23.  Stanislaus ended the half on a 6-1 run to take a 29-25 advantage into the halftime break.

Both teams traded buckets to open the second period and neither team would lead by more than four points down the stretch.  The Seawolves and Warriors found themselves knotted at 61 apiece with 2:21 left in regulation, but a successful and-one play by Godde put CSUS up by three at 64-61.  A made jumper by Elizabeth Day on the ensuing possession closed the gap to one point, but Cal State Stanislaus ended the game on an 8-2 run to hold off Sonoma State for its first conference win of the 2012-13 campaign.

Sheahan and Tanner Adams both came off the bench to drop in 11 points each while Fahey added 10.  Day and Travis Newman grabbed eight rebounds apiece and Alysa Ito dished out six assists.

Sonoma State returns home on Friday, hosting Cal State L.A. at 5:30 p.m. in The Wolves' Den.
