ROHNERT PARK --
Kristina Fahey came relatively close to recording a quadruple-double, netting 18 points to go along with seven rebounds, seven assists and six steals, but the Sonoma State women's basketball team struggled offensively the entire night, resulting in a 57-47 loss to visiting Cal Maritime on Tuesday evening at The Wolves' Den.  The Seawolves begin the 2013-14 campaign with an 0-1 record while the Keelhaulers, an NAIA institution competing in the California Pacific Conference, improves to 3-2 this season.

Fahey matched Cal Maritime's Javier Brantley for most points scored on Tuesday with 18.  The senior out of Rocklin scored nine of her 18 points from the free throw line on 9 of 11 shooting from the stripe, in addition to 3 of 6 from beyond the three-point arc.  She also tied for the team-high in rebounds alongside Bronte Sheahan and Hannah Green, while leading the way in assists and steals.

It was a back-and-forth battle for the first 10 minutes of the contest as neither team would lead by more than three points at any time until the Keelhaulers went on a 19-4 run over 10-minute span to take a 30-16 lead with 1:34 left in the opening period -- the halftime lead for Cal Maritime eventually got up to 15 points at 33-18.  Cal Maritime hit 41.2 percent of its shots before halftime on 14 of 34 shooting, holding Sonoma State to just 26.1 percent from the floor (6 for 23).

In the second half, the Keelhaulers cooled off a bit, allowing the Seawolves to chip away at their deficit.  CMA took its largest lead of the night (18 points) on a three-pointer by Brantley to open the second half, but SSU rallied to get within seven points at 42-35 with 11 minutes left in regulation.  However, that is as close as Sonoma would get the rest of the way as Cal Maritime held a double-digit lead for most of the final 11 minutes, ending with the 10-point 57-47 victory.

Green came off the bench to score 10 points and add seven rebounds in 26 minutes of work.  Taylor Acosta dropped in seven points and added four rebounds, playing in all but four minutes of Tuesday's season-opener.  As a team, the Seawolves hit on 27.1 percent of their shots (13 of 48), including just 4 of 14 from downtown (28.6 percent).  SSU even attempted 22 more free throws than CMA, connecting on 17 of 26 (65.4 percent) from the charity stripe -- CMA was just 1 of 4 from the line in the game.

Cal Maritime hit 38.3 percent of its shots on 23 of 60 shooting, including 10 of 27 from beyond the arc (37.0 percent).

Sonoma State returns to action on Nov. 22 when it hosts the Elsie Darling Classic, welcoming Chico State, Notre Dame de Namur and Tampa into The Wolves' Den for a two-day affair.  The Seawolves will play Tampa on Nov. 22 at a special 3:00 pm start time following the Chico State/Notre Dame de Namur contest at 1:00 pm.
