ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- Playing their most complete game of the year, the Sonoma State women's basketball team made the upcoming Christmas break a bit merrier with a 69-63 win over a quality San Francisco State squad on Sunday afternoon at The Wolves' Den.  The Seawolves (2-6, 1-3 CCAA) got 13 points from Kristina Fahey and a double-double from Taylor Acosta as they snap a four-game losing skid and pick up their first conference win of the season.  The Gators, who received votes in this week's USA Today/WBCA Top 25 Poll, lost for the first time this season on American soil, dropping to 7-3, 3-1 CCAA overall.

For a young team like Sonoma State, moral victories have been a big part of the team's early season performance.  Playing much older and more experienced teams, the Seawolves have competed well with some of the better squads in the CCAA.  That growth was certainly evident against the Gators.  Nine days after a 10-point defeat at SF State, the Seawolves jumped out in front early, setting the tone for an exciting, up-tempo contest.

Sonoma scored the first eight points of the game and held a 16-10 lead just over six minutes in, thanks to some excellent long range shooting.  The Seawolves nailed seven three-pointers in the first half, tying their season-high in just the first 20 minutes.  And when the three-pointers stopped dropping in the second half, the Seawolves adjusted, turning to a vastly improved inside game.

Sunday's win could not be fairly be attributed to offense alone, however, as the defense did it's fair share as well.  Coming up with big stops and frustrating the Gator shooters, as they did in a 7-0 run over the final two and a half minutes of the first half, the Seawolves forced 13 turnovers and limited SF State to 38% shooting overall (and 28.6% from beyond the arc).

Four Seawolves finished in double figures - Fahey with 13, Bronte Sheahan and Hannah Sourek with 12, and Acosta with 11.  Tanner Adams also had a nice game, posting nine points and five assists.

Katie Batlin had 14 points, five rebounds, and six assists to lead San Francisco State.  Angela Van Sickel, who scored 30 against the Seawolves on December 13th, finished with just nine points on 4-of-17 shooting.

The Seawolves return to action on January 4th when they kick off a four-game CCAA roadtrip at Cal State Dominguez Hills.  They return to The Wolves' Den on January 17th against UC San Diego.
