BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- The Sonoma State baseball team brought the bats out in Saturday's doubleheader against Cal Baptist, outscoring the Lancers 13-6, including a shutout in the nightcap, to put a lid on the doubleheader sweep.  The Seawolves shook off yesterday's loss to come back and win the three-game series, 2-1.  Also, SSU's pitching was on par as George Asmus (3-0) came in on relief and recorded his third win of the season, while Glenn Wallace (1-0) earned his first win of the season.  Sonoma State improves to a 6-2 record overall in the young season.

GAME 1: Sonoma State 8, Cal Baptist 6  --  Box Score

Tyler Glenn hit a sacrifice fly to score Scott Fleury from third base to get the Seawolves on the board in the first inning.  From there, Sonoma State would do the bulk of thier scoring in the second inning, plating six runs to take a 7-0 lead early on.  Fleury started things off in the second with an RBI single to bring home Shawn Walters.  Two bases-loaded walks allowed two more SSU runs to cross the plate before Marcus Kimura drilled a two-run double to bring home Steven Filippi and Fleury.  Wesley Wallace then reached on an error by the CBU third baseman, which allowed Glenn to score from third.  Cal Baptist was able to answer in the bottom of the second, but could only bring across one run on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Cathers.

Down 7-1, Cal Baptist looked to mount a comeback, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, to make things interesting at a score of 7-4.  One swing of the bat by Zach Esquerra garnered two runs for the Lancers as Esquerra smashed his second homerun of the year in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Sonoma State entered the bottom of the ninth inning with an 8-4 lead, but allowed two runs to come in.  However, Asmus was able to get Travis Sais to hit a fly ball to right field to end the Lancer rally, giving Sonoma State the 8-6 victory.

Sonoma State totaled eleven hits in the win as Jackson Stogner, Devon Zenn and Fleury each produced two hits.  Fleury also drove in one run and scored two, while Glenn recorded two RBIs without getting a hit in the game.  For Cal Baptist, Esquerra went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored.  Cathers contributed to the Lancer offense as well, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

While it was Austin Wiggins who got the start for the Seawolves, he gave up four runs in three and one-third innings and was relieved by Asmus in the fourth inning.  Asmus went on to give up two runs on four hits, while striking out three batters en route to his third win in the first eight games of the season.  Michael Davis (0-1) was tagged with the loss after giving up six runs on five hits while walking three batters.

GAME 2: Sonoma State 5, Cal Baptist 0  --  Box Score

Sonoma State was able to blank Cal Baptist in the night cap behind strong pitching from Glenn Wallace (1-0) who earned his first win of the season by giving up just one hit and striking out nine CBU batters in six impressive innings.  Steven Zaharias pitched the final three innings and gave up three hits while striking out two batters.

The Seawolves got on the board in the top of the third inning when Devon Zenn kocked in Jeffrey Boulware on a single to left field.  After a quick two outs to start the fifth inning, Zenn hit a double for his second hit of the ball game. Garrett Schwartz and Gary Detwiler then walked to load the bases making way for Garrett Gooselaw to hit a two-run single, scoring Zenn and Schwartz, giving SSU a 3-0 lead.  Sonoma State went on to score one more run in the sixth and eighth innings to put them at the winning score of 5-0.

Two of the five runs were provided by Gooselaw's two-RBI single, while Sam Montgomery and Zenn each knocked in one run as well.  Zenn also went 3-for-5 at the plate, while scoring one run.  Cal Baptist stuggled to do anything, as Matt Daugherty, Zach and Luke Esquerra, and Johnathon Davis each had one hit apiece.

Sonoma State will wrap up their non-conference schedule at home next Saturday, February 23rd  when Fresno Pacific visits Seawolf Diamond for a rare two-game series.  First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 11:00 a.m.
