BOX SCORE Sonoma State 61, Cal State L.A. 41  --  Box Score
LOS ANGELES  --  A career-high 19 points from freshman
Brianna Burgos led Sonoma State to a convincing 61-41 win over Cal State L.A. at the Eagles Nest on Saturday night, putting the capper on an impressive weekend of basketball for the Seawolves.  Coupled with Friday's one-point win, Sonoma made it a road weekend sweep, their first in conference play this season, as they moved into ninth place in the CCAA, just two games out of a spot in the conference tournament.  Winners of three of their last four, the suddenly hot Seawolves improve to 8-14, 6-12 CCAA on the season.  Cal State L.A. falls to 15-10, 10-8 CCAA.
From the very beginning, Sonoma State looked like the team coming in with a 15-9 record on Saturday night.  The Seawolves scored the first five points of the game and never looked back, leading wire to wire.  They raced to a 23-7 lead within eleven and a half minutes and then cruised to a 15-point halftime advantage.
Cal State L.A. never mounted much of a threat to Sonoma in the second, either.  The Golden Eagles got within ten, at 49-39, but two quick three-pointers by
Travis Newman and Burgos quickly bumped the lead to 16 and drained any momentum CSULA may have gathered.
While two wins on the road is always an impressive feat, the fuel leading the Seawolves to victory has added even more encouragement to a young roster that has had to play short-handed this season due to injuries.  One night after freshman
Hannah Sourek busted out with a career-high 17, it was her fellow rookie Burgos' time to shine.
The Sacramento native shot an efficient 7-of-9 from the field, including a team season-high five three-pointers.  Her 19 points are the fourth-most scored by a Seawolf in a game this season.  Burgos also added six rebounds.
While not as flashy as her 17-point peformance on Friday, Sourek was solid again on Saturday, finishing with seven points and seven rebounds.  For the weekend, the pair of freshmen gave the Seawolves a combined 54 points and 20 rebounds.
Sonoma also got eight points and eight rebounds from
Elizabeth Day and eight points and six rebounds from
Travis Newman.
In addition to their strong performance on the offensive end, the Seawolves excelled on defense, holding Cal State L.A. to their lowest point total of the season.  CSULA shot just 27.6% for the game.
Tessondra Williams was the leading scorer for the Golden Eagles, with 12 points.
The Seawolves will try to keep their momentum going next weekend when they head back to The Wolves' Den for their final home games of the season.  Humboldt State comes to town on Friday, followed by Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday.
