LA JOLLA, Calif. --
Alysa Ito and Taylor Vigil each dropped in a team-high 11 points with eight rebounds and six assists combined, but the Sonoma State women's basketball team has been eliminated from postseason contention with Thursday's 67-59 loss to UC San Diego at RIMAC Arena in La Jolla.  The Seawolves (9-16, 7-14 CCAA) will wrap up the 2012-13 season Friday night at Cal State San Bernardino, tipping off at 5:30 p.m.

With Sonoma State currently in 10th place, a best-case scenario for SSU would be a win on Friday and losses by San Francisco State and Cal State Dominguez Hills, placing the teams in a three-way tie for the eighth and final spot in the CCAA tournament.  However, SF State holds the tiebreaker over both teams, due to having a better record in conference games among all tied teams.

Knowing a loss this weekend would doom their playoff hopes, the Seawolves scratched and clawed the entire ballgame.  The Tritons did jump out to a 7-0 lead in the opening two minutes, but the Seawolves never went away.  In fact, SSU took a four-point lead (18-14) at the 12:07 mark of the first half on a layup by Vigil.

UCSD eventually took the lead back, but both squads entered a see-saw battle for several minutes until the Tritons got out to an eight-point lead at 32-24 with a 1:50 left before halftime.  A three-pointer by Travis Newman 21 seconds later cut the SSU deficit down to five (32-27) and that's where both teams would stand at halftime.

While UC San Diego led the entire second half, Sonoma State got to within two points at 45-43 with 11:36 to play in regulation after scoring six unanswered points, but it would be as close as the visitors would get as the Tritons held off the Seawolves for the eight-point win.

Ito and Vigil finished with 11 each -- nine of Ito's 11 came in the first half.  Hannah Sourek and Newman each chipped in with eight points.  As a team, the Seawolves hit on 21 of 51 shot attempts (41.2 percent), including just 5 of 17 from beyond the three-point arc.

UC San Diego was led by the 22 points of Daisy Feder and 18 points of Emily Osga.  They helped the hosts connect on 25 of 53 shots (47.2 percent), including 7 of 16 from long range.  The Tritons also outrebounded the Seawolves, 33-26, in the contest.
