Seawolves Shoot The Lights Out On Way To Pink Out Night Win

The Seawolves flexed their muscles in front of a healthy Pink Out crowd at The Wolves' Den.
BOX SCORE Sonoma State 85, Cal State Stanislaus 73  --  Box Score

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- Sonoma State turned in their most prolific scoring performance in nearly six years on Friday night as they rolled to an 85-73 win over Cal State Stanislaus before a solid crowd on Pink Out Night at The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park.  Travis Newman led three scorers in double digits with 21 points as the Seawolves led wire to wire, snapping a three-game losing streak in the process.  Sonoma improves to 6-13, 4-11 CCAA while the Warriors stumble to 2-18, 1-14 CCAA.

The 85 points scored by Sonoma State was their most since an 89-72 win over Cal State Stanislaus on March 1, 2007.  Their previous high this season was 76, against Dominican on December 19th.

Six days removed from almost upsetting third place Cal State Monterey Bay, the Seawolves came out on fire.  Breaking through an early Stanislaus attempt at a full court press, the Seawolves steamrolled to a 21-5 lead in the first seven minutes.

Shooting 60% from the field in the first half (18-for-30), the Seawolves extended the lead to as many as 27, before settling on a 47-23 advantage at the break.

Cal State Stanislaus would shoot just 22.7% in the first half and, though they would never get within nine in the second half, it would be a much better effort on the offensive end.  The Warriors scored 50 in the second half to make things a bit interesting, but Sonoma had more than enough down the stretch to keep their opponents at bay.

Newman's 21 points were one off her season and career-high of 22, set against Dominican in December.  It was the third-highest individual output of the season by a Seawolf.  She shot 6-of-12 from the field and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line.

Taylor Vigil posted 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting and freshman Tanner Adams tallied a career-high 15.  Elizabeth Day was a bucket short of a double-double with eight points and ten rebounds.  Alysa Ito had eight assists.

Lauren Godde scored 22 points for Cal State Stanislaus while teammate Briana Cotton pumped in 20.

The Seawolves return to action on Saturday night when they host 11th-ranked Chico State.  Tip off is set for 5:30, with Pack The Den Night festivities planned.
