Garrett Schwartz went 2-for-4 with a homerun and two RBIs in Sunday's loss to CSUSB
BOX SCORE CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO 6, #20 SONOMA STATE 3 – BOX SCORE

ROHNERT PARK – The Sonoma State baseball team was unable to climb out of a 5-0 hole that was established in the second inning, causing them to drop their second straight game and be forced with a series split with Cal State San Bernardino.  The loss brings SSU to a 15-7, 7-5 CCAA record while CSUSB moves to 11-13, 5-11 CCAA.

After a clean first inning from Sonoma State starter Taylor Herbert (1-1), Cal State San Bernardino was able to tack five runs on the board in the second inning, tagging Herbert with the eventual loss.  The second inning began with a leadoff walk to Richard Mount and was follow by two well-placed bunt singles by Remington Miller and Aaron Beckley to load the bases with no outs.  Two straight walks by Herbert would bring in two runs, and was followed by a Steven Chagolla single that drove in a run to give the Coyotes a 3-0 lead.  A fielder's choice and an error allowed the other two runs to come in, as the visitors staked a 5-0 lead early on.

Garrett Schwartz remained on fire at the dish, leading off the second inning with a solo homerun to left center field to bring the score to 5-1; his second big fly of the series.  Schwartz was impressive at the plate this series, to say the least.  Over the weekend, the junior outfielder batted .571 with six doubles and two homeruns, accumulating six RBIs, and posted an astronomical slugging percentage of 1.429 percent, putting him in Player of Week contention.

The Seawolves were able to narrow the gap to two runs after scoring one run in the sixth and seventh inning to make the score 5-3.  However, CSUSB would plate one more run in the eighth inning to bring the score to 6-3, a deficit the Seawolves could not close.

In addition to Schwartz's two hit, two RBI day, Jackson Stogner also contributed two hits and six other Seawolves tallied one hit in the loss.  Herbert allowed five runs on eight hits, while striking out five.

Taylor Valentine (1-1) made the start for the Coyotes and pitched well into the seventh inning, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out four batters en route to his first victory of the season.  Matt LeVert recorded his third save of year by shutting down SSU in the bottom of the ninth inning.  Offensively, Miller had a three hit day in addition to scoring a run while four separate Coyotes earned RBIs in the win.

Sonoma State will play a home-and-home series with Gators of San Francisco State next weekend with series beginning in San Francisco on Friday before coming north for a Saturday doubleheader.  The series will wrap up on Sunday in San Francisco.
