ROHNERT PARK --
The 25th-ranked Sonoma State softball team pounded out 16 runs on 22 hits in two games, cruising to a doubleheader sweep of visiting Cal State San Bernardino on Friday afternoon at the Seawolf Softball Field in Rohnert Park.  The Seawolves, who won 12-3 in five innings in the opener, then added a 4-2 win in the nightcap, have now won four straight, improving to 16-7 overall and 9-5 in the CCAA.  The Coyotes have lost five straight, dropping to 8-16 (5-9 CCAA).

Holli Brown led the way offensively for SSU, going 3 for 5 with a triple, three RBI and three runs scored, followed by 3 for 6 efforts off the bats of Vanessa Currie, Ali Palermo and Keisi ChinenSamantha Lipperd (9-3) and Amanda Llerena (7-4) both earned victories in the circle on Friday and Lipperd, who took over for Llerena in the sixth inning of game two, recorded her first save of the season and third of her career.

Sonoma State and Cal State San Bernardino will wrap up the series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 a.m.

GAME 1

With the exception of the fourth inning, Lipperd dominated the Coyote lineup from top to bottom -- she retired the first nine batters she faced.  Meanwhile, the Seawolves brought 10 batters to the plate in the bottom of the second inning, putting five runs up on the scoreboard on six hits, a walk and a sacrifice fly.  In its next at bat, Sonoma added a run on a solo home run by Chinen to lead off the third, increasing the lead to 6-0.

The Coyotes began to make their move on their second time through the lineup.  They loaded the bases after a walk, an error and a fielders choice sacrifice bunt, all with no outs.  After Lipperd got Alyssa Flores to pop out foul, Monica Ferguson delivered a bases-clearing, three-run double to cut the SSU lead in half at 6-3.  Ferguson's double, though, would be the only hit by CSUSB in the ballgame.

With a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth, Sonoma State continued its offensive prowess and scored a run almost immediately, chasing Cal State San Bernardino starting pitcher Kaitlyn Randall (5-11) from the game.  Monica Cartwright took over in the circle, but struggled to stop the bleeding.  The Seawolves went on to score five more runs, three of which was charged to Cartwright, to put the hosts up 12-3.

Lipperd needed just three outs in the fifth inning to induce the eight-run mercy rule and, despite allowing the leadoff runner on via a throwing error by Hayley Condon at third base, she retired the next three batters in order to secure her CCAA-leading ninth win of the year.  She allowed just one hit and three runs (two earned), with a pair of walks and six strikeouts.

Purdy led the way going 3 for 4 with two RBI and a run scored, Danielle D'Eccliss went 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run, and both Chinen and Brown went 2 for 3 with a couple of runs as well.

GAME 2

The Seawolves kept the bats warm between games and pounded out two more runs in the bottom of the second inning, and even threatened for more.  After both runs had already crossed the plate on RBI's by Ashley Vignola and Purdy, the bases would remain loaded with just one out.  However, Cartwright got out of the jam and retired the next two batters.

Two more runs came across the plate in the Sonoma State fifth on an RBI single by Condon and an RBI sacrifice fly by Brown to put the Seawolves up 4-0.

Cal State San Bernardino came back in the top of the sixth to score two runs and threatened for more with the bases loaded and one out.  Lipperd came on to relieve Llerena and struckout Victoria Lievanos and Darian Manuz to end the sixth, keeping the SSU lead at two runs, 4-2.

Randall, who came in for CSUSB's game two starter Cartwright (1-1) in the fifth gave up just one hit in the final two innings, retired SSU in order in the sixth and would look to try and knot the game.  However, Lipperd matched Randall's effort and put out all three batters in the seventh to record her first save of the season.

Currie and Palermo led the way for the Seawolves in the nightcap, each going 2 for 3 with a run scored and five others had a hit to total nine in the contest.

Jamie Leffingwell had two of the Coyotes' six hits, bringing home a run and scoring a run as well.
