TURLOCK, Calif. – Entering the weekend on a four game losing streak, the Sonoma State baseball team came into Turlock to face Cal State Stanislaus in hopes of turning things around.  The Warriors held the Seawolves in check in the first game, extending SSU's losing streak to five games, while breaking a nine-game dry spell of their own with a 4-0 victory over SSU.  However, Sonoma State would right the ship in the nightcap, putting the four on the other side of the scoreboard to take the 4-0 win and Saturday doubleheader split against the Warriors.  Sonoma State improves to 22-14, 14-12 in the CCAA, while Cal State Stanislaus moves to 8-29, 5-25 CCAA.

GAME ONE: CAL STATE STANISLAUS 4, SONOMA STATE 0 – BOX SCORE
The Seawolves were silenced by Cal State Stanislaus starting pitcher Byron Lemon (2-7) who pitched a complete game shutout featuring ten strikeouts to help lead the Warriors to the 4-0 victory.  George Asmus took his second loss of the season, dropping to 5-2, after pitching for seven innings, allowing eight hits and one earned run.

The Warriors tacked on a run against Asmus in the bottom of the fifth by way of small ball, beginning with Matt Chaidez getting hit by the pitch.  After a sacrifice bunt and a single moved Chaidez to third, Craig Beevers hit another sacrifice bunt to score Chaidez for the 1-0 lead.  The Warriors attempted to put up a crooked number in the inning but Skippy Ferreria would be gunned out at home plate by SSU shortstop, Scott Harkin, to end the inning.

Stanislaus never looked back from there, holding the one run lead until the eighth inning, when they recorded three runs on SSU reliever Austin Wiggins.  In addition to an RBI by Chaidez, Tynan Pedretti and James Heller also knocked in runs in the eighth.  Steven Filippi was able to reach second base in the top of the ninth inning, but two fly-outs would nullify any hopes of a comeback as the Seawolves lost game one 4-0.

Marcus Kimura was the only SSU player with two hits, as six other Seawolves contributed with one hit each.  Andrew Graves went 2-for-4 for Cal State Stanislaus, while Pedretti slapped three hits in addition to recording an RBI.

GAME TWO: SONOMA STATE 4, CAL STATE STANISLAUS 0 – BOX SCORE
Game two was almost a mirror image of the first as Sonoma State was able to score in three consecutive innings to back Glenn Wallace's stellar pitching performance in the 4-0 win of the nightcap.  The pitcher from Reno earned his fifth win of the season as he threw eight strong innings, scattering seven hits and fanning five.  Wallace's counterpart, Michael York, was stuck with his third loss of the season after allowing three runs on four hits, three walks, and four strikeouts.

The Seawolves crossed the plate twice in the top of the sixth inning when Justin Serrao led off by being hit by the pitch, was advanced to third on a single by Jackson Stogner, and was hit in by Kimura on a sacrifice fly.  The second run of the inning was scored by way of a sacrifice fly as well, this time by Filippi who scored Stogner to take a 2-0 lead.  Sonoma State scored once in the seventh inning on a single by Serrao, and once again in the eighth inning on a throwing error by the CSUS third baseman that allowed Filippi to score, giving the visitors a 4-0 lead; the eventual winning score.

Garrett Schwartz led the SSU offense with a 2-for-4 day at the plate while Kimura, Filippi and Serrao recorded one RBI each in the victory.  Cal State Stanislaus saw seven different players smack one hit each.

The four-game series will conclude in Rohnert Park at Seawolf Diamond tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 am.
