BOX SCORE SONOMA STATE 3, #12 CAL STATE L.A. 1 – BOX SCORE

ROHNERT PARK – Sonoma State starter George Asmus gave up a first inning homerun to James Wharton to give Cal State L.A. a 1-0 lead early on.  However, the Sonoma State baseball team was able to rally back and score three runs to take the 3-1 win on senior day, backed by a solid pitching outing by Asmus, who improved his record to 6-2.  Sonoma State wins the series 3-1, bringing their overall record to 27-15 while sporting a 19-13 CCAA record.  The Golden Eagles fall to 26-16, 23-9 CCAA.

After allowing a first inning homerun to the Eagles, Asmus was lights out in his six and two-thirds innings of work, allowing five hits while striking out four Golden Eagles. The Sonoma State offense picked up Asmus in the fifth inning when Devon Zenn hit a two-RBI double to knock in Garrett Schwartz and Steven Filippi.  The Seawolves put one more run on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning on a Sam Montgomery RBI single, scoring Jackson Stogner

Solid defense up the middle by Stogner and Scott Harkin and strong pitching from reliever Steven Zaharias ensured the victory for the Seawolves; Zaharias recorded his fifth save of the season.

Filippi led the team at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.  In fact, all nine starters in the batting order would record hits in the 3-1 victory.  Zenn led the Seawolves offensively in the series, going 7-for-15 with a .467 batting average, including four doubles and three RBIs.  For the Golden Eagles, Wharton slapped three hits, including his solo shot over the center field wall, while Ryan Cooperstone recorded two hits in the loss.  CSULA starting pitcher Omar Jimenez lasted five innings and gave up two runs on six hits with two strikeouts.

Next weekend Sonoma State will travel to Chico to take on the Wildcats for three games before relocating to Raley Field in West Sacramento, Calif. for the second annual Capital City Clash.  Tickets can be purchased at sonomaseawolves.com.  First pitch of the series is set for Friday at 6:00 pm.
