TURLOCK, Calif. --
Ancia Purdy, Hayley Condon and Megan Konieczka combined for 12 hits and eight runs scored as the Sonoma State softball team defeated Simon Fraser (6-0) and Western Oregon (7-1) on Saturday to wrap up pool play undefeated, securing a spot in the Gold Bracket of the 12th Annual Tournament of Champions, presented by Mizuno.  The 16th-ranked Seawolves, who have won 12 straight games (and 19 of their last 20), improve to 31-8 this season and will vie for the overall tournament title -- Sonoma State won the tournament in 2010.

Konieczka led the way, going 4 for 5 with an RBI and three runs scored, including a 2 for 2 effort in the 7-1 victory over Western Oregon.  Condon went 4 for 6 with an RBI and two runs while Purdy had a 4 for 7 day at the plate with a double, two RBI and three runs.  The Seawolves combined for 21 hits in both games combined on Saturday.

Samantha Lipperd improved to 18-3 this season after earning a three-hit shutout in the 6-0 win over Simon Fraser.  She gave up one walk and struck out seven.  Then, Amanda Llerena allowed just two hits and one walk against Western Oregon, fanning 12 batters to rise to 13-5 as the pitcher of record this season.

Sonoma State will play at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday in the Gold Bracket quarterfinal against ninth-ranked Humboldt State in a preview of next weekend's highly-anticipated CCAA series in Arcata between the conference's top two teams.  Should SSU advance beyond the quarterfinal, the semifinal would be played at 1:00 p.m. against Cal State Dominguez Hills, which has a bye in the quarterfinal, with the championship game scheduled for 3:15 p.m.

The rest of the bracket will be decided following the completion of pool play on Saturday.  For the most up-to-date scores and information, visit the tournament web page at http://www.warriorathletics.com/toc.

#16 Sonoma State 6, Simon Fraser 0 -- Box Score

Scoreless through the first five innings, the Seawolves finally broke through in the sixth.  Currie brought home Purdy from third base on a groundout to the right side before Palermo gave SSU a 2-0 lead on an RBI single through the left side that scored Danielle D'Eccliss.

Sonoma State padded its lead in the seventh, plating four runs to take the 6-0 lead (and eventual winning score).  Purdy hit Konieczka home, Currie connected on a two-RBI single, then Palermo delivered another RBI single to account for the SSU offense in the ballgame.

Lipperd, meanwhile, dominated the Simon Fraser lineup, allowing just three hits and one run, striking out seven.  Only one base runner reached second base, but that would be as far as the Clan would get from scoring the entire day.

Offensively, Purdy, Palermo, Konieczka and Condon had two hits each and Currie had one hit, but three RBI.  Sonoma totaled 11 hits in the contest.

Llerena continued to stymie opposing batters, just as Lipperd had done in Saturday's first game.  She held Western Oregon scoreless until the sixth inning when the Wolves' Amanda Evola smashed a solo shot to deep center field, but Sonoma State had scored all seven runs by that point.  Llerena struckout 12 batters, tying a career-high that she has achieved two other times this season -- at one point, she fanned six straight batters, striking out the side in both the second and third innings.  WOU collected just two hits, both coming off of Evola's bat.

Meanwhile, the Seawolves took a 2-0 advantage in the third inning when Purdy and D'Eccliss scored on an error off of a batted ball by Palermo.  Purdy had an RBI single in the third to take a 3-0 lead, then Condon, Konieczka, Holli Brown and Keisi Chinen netted back-to-back-to-back-to-back RBI to go up by seven runs.

Sonoma State recorded 10 hits as a team with Purdy, Condon and Konieczka each had a pair of base hits to pace the Seawolf offense.
