ST. GEORGE, Utah --
Holli Brown went 3 for 3 with a double and a three-run home run to lead Sonoma State to an 8-0 shutout of Hawai'i-Hilo in the first of two elimination games on Saturday at the NCAA Division II Softball West 2 Regional at Karl Brooks Field in St. George, Utah.  The Seawolves (37-20) advance to take on host Dixie State at 3:20 pm Pacific Daylight Savings Time in another elimination game.  The winner of the 3:20 pm game will move on to play Cal State Dominguez Hills on Championship Sunday.  The Vulcans went two-and-out and end their season at 39-19.

Brown got the Seawolves off to a great start, smashing a 1-0 pitch over the left center field fence, giving Sonoma State an early 3-0 lead.  The runs piled on in the SSU third when Vanessa Currie, Ali Palermo and Brown recorded back-to-back-to-back RBI singles to put Sonoma up 6-0.  Another run came home to score on a single by Hayley Condon, giving the Seawolves a 7-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth inning, Brown delivered a one-out double to right center field and then came home on an error by UHH short stop Rebecca Lee after a batted ball off the bat of Keisi Chinen, which induced the eight-run mercy rule and the SSU victory.

Samantha Lipperd (23-11) earned the victory in the circle, working three innings and allowing two hits.  Amanda Llerena came on in relief to work the final two, scattering one Hawai'i-Hilo hit.

UHH's Hannah Peterson was tagged with the loss; she allowed six runs on five hits and four walks and fell to 6-3 on the year.

Sonoma State returns to the field at 3:20 pm Pacific Time to play host Dixie State in another elimination game.  It will be carried live on the Seawolf Sports Network at http://www.sonomaseawolves.com/live.
