CARSON, Calif. – With the win in game two and a Cal State East Bay loss to Cal Poly Pomona, Sonoma State clinches its third consecutive CCAA Tournament berth.  The Sonoma State baseball team scattered double-digit hits in game one, but could not get enough runs across as Cal State Dominguez Hills guaranteed themselves a series split with Sonoma after winning the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, 4-2, in Carson.  Sonoma State was able to salvage a split of the twin bill in game two, winning by an identical score of 4-2.  Sonoma State improves to 32-17, 24-15 CCAA while the Toros drop to 22-26, 18-21 CCAA.

GAME ONE: CAL STATE DOMINGUEZ HILLS 4, #17 SONOMA STATE 2 – BOX SCORE
Steven Filippi and Devon Zenn got the offense started for Sonoma State, as Filippi hustled to get a triple and then was knocked in from third by Zenn, the very next batter, giving SSU a 1-0 lead.  However, the Toros struck three times in the bottom of the fourth inning highlighted by a two RBI double by Chris Allen, giving the hosts a 3-1 lead.  The Seawolves got one back in the fifth when Justin Serrao touched home on a double play ball hit to third base, narrowing the deficit to one run at 3-2.  The Seawolves loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the eighth, but Scott Harkin would fly out to center field to end the threat.  Cal State Dominguez Hills tacked one more run on the board in bottom of the eighth and went on to win the first half of the doubleheader 4-2.

Ian Ocon got the start for SSU and lasted for six innings, giving up three runs on five hits with four strikeouts, but unfortunately took his second loss of the season, dropping his record to 1-2.  Offensively for Sonoma State, Zenn went 3-for-4 at the plate with SSU's lone RBI in the loss.  Jackson Stogner and Steven Moen each had two hits in the ball game.

Dimitri Delafuente improved his record to 2-5 by allowing two runs on ten hits in eight innings of work.  Hayden Maurice slapped two hits for CSUDH, while Allen contributed two RBIs for the Toros in the victory.

GAME TWO: #17 SONOMA STATE 4, CAL STATE DOMINGUEZ HILLS 2 – BOX SCORE
Cal State Dominguez Hills scored first in the nightcap, taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI single to left field off the bat of Brady Conlan in the bottom of the third inning.  The Seawolves answered back with a run of their own in the top of the fourth when Garrett Schwartz hit in Filippi, effectively tying the game a 1-1.

After two walks and a hit by pitch, Steven Moen was able to bring in a run on a groundout to first base scoring Harkin, giving the Seawolves the 2-1 lead at the end of the top of the fifth inning. Sonoma State increased their lead to three runs when Sam Montgomery hit his third homerun of the season, this time a two-run shot to bring in Schwartz and give the 17th-ranked Seawolves a 4-1 lead.  Cal State Dominguez Hills was able to get a run across in the bottom of the seventh, but it would not be enough as Sonoma State would secure a 4-2 win

While Sonoma State produced only four hits in the game, none was bigger than Montgomery's two-run big fly in the fifth inning.  Starter Glenn Wallace was dominant once again, throwing his fifth complete game, with seven hits, one earned run and eight strikeouts, improving his record to 8-1.

For Dominguez Hills, Conlan and Charles Rossman III each had two hits in game two and starter David Haerle pitched for four and two-thirds innings allowing two runs on three hits with five walks and two strikeouts.

Sonoma State will wrap up the four-game series against Cal State Dominguez Hills and the regular season Sunday afternoon in Carson.  First pitch is set for 11:00 am.
