#21 Seawolves To Face #6 Cal State L.A. On Friday In Turlock

TURLOCK, Calif. -- The CCAA Soccer Championships return to Warrior Stadium in Turlock this week as eight teams -- four women, four men -- converge on the campus of Cal State Stanislaus to play for the conference title.

With last Sunday's first round matches completed, Sonoma State and Cal Poly Pomona have earned the right to join Chico State and Cal State L.A. on the women's side of the tournament, which starts Friday, Nov. 7, at 11 am.  The men's tournament will feature host Cal State Stanislaus as well as Cal State Dominguez Hills -- both winners on Sunday to advance. The Warriors and the Toros will join Cal State L.A. and Cal Poly Pomona in the men's bracket.

Winners of each tournament will be crowned the 2014 CCAA Champions and the women's champion will receive the automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.

Sonoma State (14-4-1), the No. 4 seed in the CCAA tournament, jumped back into the NSCAA Division II National Top 25 Poll this week, ranked at No. 21.  The Seawolves will face top-seed and sixth-ranked Cal State L.A. (14-1-3) in Friday's semifinal, scheduled for 1:30 pm.  The Seawolves and Golden Eagles faced each other once this season, but CSULA earned a 2-0 victory on its home field in Los Angeles on Oct. 17.

This will be the third straight season that SSU has appeared in the conference tournament semifinal; it won both of its previous semifinal games to reach the title match (a 4-2 win over Cal Poly Pomona in 2012 and a 2-1 win in double overtime against Cal State San Bernardino last season).

CCAA Championship Tournament activities kick-off Thursday with team practices at the Soccer Training Complex at CSU Stanislaus, followed by a tournament banquet on the campus, Main Dining, where the 2014 All-CCAA teams will be announced. The All-CCAA presentation will be broadcasted live at approximately 7 p.m. on WarriorTV.

Every match of the semifinal rounds and Sunday's championship games will be available via Live Stats as well as live on WarriorTV. The live broadcasts can be seen free of charge with the viewers having the option to subscribe to a HD upgrade.

Tournament tickets presales are now available online until Thursday, Nov. 6, at 5 p.m. Tickets will then be available at the Stadium Box Office beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 7.
