Five Seawolves Named To 2014 All-CCAA Women's Soccer Team

TURLOCK, Calif. -- Senior Lauren Curtin, the second-leading goal scorer in the conference this season, and four other Sonoma State women's soccer student-athletes were named to the 2014 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women's Soccer All-Conference Team, it was announced at the CCAA Soccer Championships Banquet on Thursday evening in Turlock.  Curtin earned First Team honors while McKenzie Maher, Margi Osmundson, Cecilia Sifuentes and Kristal Luna grabbed Honorable Mention nods.

Curtin, who was named the CCAA's Newcomer of the Year and earned also notched First Team accolades a season ago, scored a team-leading 12 goals this season and added two assists in 19 matches.  She finished the regular season second in goals and points (26) behind Freshman of the Year Jade Poon of Cal State Stanislaus.  Curtin, an All-American from Santa Rosa, Calif., recorded five game-winning goals, including the golden goal last Thursday to give Sonoma State the 3-2 win over host San Francisco State on the final day of the regular season.  In 40 career games for Sonoma State, she has scored 20 goals.

Maher, a freshman from Petaluma, Calif., is second on the team in goals with five this season, adding two assists for a total of 12 points.  Osmundson, a junior and also from Petaluma, scored four goals and handed out a team-high six assists for 14 points from the midfield position.  It is Osmundson's second-career All-CCAA Honorable Mention award; she also earned the honor as a freshman in 2012.  Sifuentes, a freshman from Alameda, Calif., was one of four Seawolves to play and start in all 19 regular season games this season, logging the second-most minutes (1,642).  During that time, she scored two goals and had two assists.  Luna, a sophomore out of Sunnyvale, Calif., grabs her second consecutive Honorable Mention award as a defender.  In addition to scoring a goal and passing out two assists, she was part of a backline that sported an 0.86 goals against average with nine shutouts.

Sonoma State (14-4-1), which remained at No. 6 in this week's official NCAA Division II West Region poll, will continue its season Friday when it plays top-seeded and sixth-ranked Cal State L.A. (14-1-3) in the CCAA semifinals at 1:30 pm in Turlock.  The Seawolves are looking to advance to the conference finals for the third straight season.
