ROHNERT PARK --
Trailing by a run in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Sonoma State softball team loaded the bases with no outs and two of the next three batters got hit by a Cal State Monterey Bay pitch, walking in the game-tying and game-winning runs as the Seawolves took game one, 4-3, over the Otters before CSUMB exacted revenge in the nightcap, 7-2, forcing a split on Friday in the CCAA opener for both teams.  Sonoma moves to 5-1 overall while CSU Monterey Bay ends the day at 4-2.

Keisi Chinen led the offense, going 3 for 6 with a two-run home run in the sixth inning of game two.  Amanda Rossetta, Hayley Condon and Ashley Long also brought in runs during Friday's twinbill -- the RBI's from Condon and Long came on the bases-loaded hit-by-pitches at the end of game one.

Amanda Llerena improved to 3-0 in the circle, notching the game one win, allowing seven hits, three runs (one earned) and three walks while striking out nine in seven innings of work.

Sonoma State and Cal State Monterey Bay will wrap up its four-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 11:00 am.

GAME 1

Cal State Monterey Bay scored almost immediately, loading the bases after Llerena retired the first two batters via strikeout, but a single and two consecutive walks put the Otters in prime position to take the early lead.  However, Llerena struckout the next batter to end the inning.

The Otters did draw first blood in the top of the third on a passed ball and the visitors led 1-0.  The Seawolves were held scoreless until the fourth when Condon led off the inning with a walk, then came around to score on a Long triple to straight away center field.  Long later scored on a wild pitch to give Sonoma the 2-1 lead.  The advantage didn't last long as CSUMB plated a pair of runs on a Cori Reinhardt single to regain a one-run lead at 3-2.  Cal State Monterey Bay again loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, but Llerena was able to induce the inning-ending groundout to set up Sonoma State's heroics in the bottom half of the seventh.

It was then that Keeley Ray walked, Chinen singled down the third base line and Olivia Lucchese also walked to load the bases with no outs.  Rossetta was knicked by a pitch to bring a run home to knot the game at 3-3.  Katy Bihl hit a grounder back to CSUMB pitcher Lindsey Clarkson and Clarkson went home to get the force out on Chinen, but Clarkson would hit Condon in the next at bat to bring home the walk-off run.

The Seawolves managed just four hits in the ballgame, all off of Otter starter Cori Reinhardt (2-2).

GAME 2

After suffering the heartbreaking loss just moments before, Cal State Monterey Bay didn't waste much time to put game two out of question.  Three runs came across the plate in the top half of the first, then four more scored in the third to take a 7-0 lead over the hosts.

Sonoma State couldn't get anything going until the sixth when Konieczka recorded a one-out single, then came home on Chinen's deep blast to left field.  That was all the Seawolves could muster against both Clarkson and Bianca Noriega in the nightcap as the Otters cruised to the 7-2 win to split Friday's twinbill.

Chinen went 2 for 3 in the contest, including the aforementioned two-run home run.  Bihl (1-1) was tagged with the loss after giving up seven runs (six earned) on eight hits through the first two innings.  Melissa Smith then came on in relief and allowed no runs on just two hits the rest of the way.  Offensively, SSU had seven hits to CSUMB's 10, thanks to the three hits off the bat of Otter first baseman Madison Casto.
