SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- The Sonoma State women's basketball team shot 47.4 percent from the floor, making 18 of its 38 shots, including 12 of 21 (57.4 percent) in the second half, but Cal State San Bernardino grabbed 28 offensive rebounds and turned them into 27 points to help the Coyotes (7-15, 6-13 CCAA) defeat the Seawolves (4-19, 3-16 CCAA), 58-47, on Friday night at Coussoulis Arena in San Bernardino.
The Coyotes grabbed control early in this game as they never trailed. They held a comfortable lead in the opening half, extending it to 22 points when Briana Baker drained a three-pointer right before the half and CSUSB went into the locker room leading 35-13.
All told, the Coyotes outscored the Seawolves 27-3 on second-chance shots and were never seriously threatened in the second half, despite SSU shooting 57.1 percent from the floor on 12 of 21 shooting. In fact, with CSUSB outgunning the Seawolves on the boards, the Coyotes had 31 more field goal attempts than their opponent.
No Seawolf reached double figures. They were led by
Tanner Adams and
Kristina Fahey with nine points apiece.
Alexica Mack led the Coyotes, scoring a game-high 14 points. Adriana Brodie had 12 points and Tayllor Gipson had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Sonoma State will play its final road game of the season on Saturday when it travels to La Jolla to take on UC San Diego at 5:30 pm in RIMAC Arena.
