ROHNERT PARK -- Kristina Fahey scored 13 points, but the Sonoma State women's basketball team shot just 30.9 percent from the floor and committed 20 turnovers in Saturday's 79-53 loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills at The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park. The Seawolves fall to 3-17 overall and 2-14 in the CCAA, while the Toros keep pace with Chico State in a tie for second place at 11-5 (15-5 overall).
Both teams traded scoring possessions through the first five minutes of the contest, but Cal State Dominguez Hills went on a tear and extended its lead to as much as 18 points at 28-10 with 5:47 left to go in the half. Sonoma State got to within 12 points at the 2:04 mark, but it would be as close as the hosts would get because the Toros grabbed their largest lead of the night (38 points) after a pair of free throws put them up 76-38 with exactly three minutes to go in the game. To their credit, the Seawolves never gave up and ended the contest on a 15-3 run.
Taylor Acosta was SSU's second-leading scorer with eight points, but no one else had more than seven points.
For Cal State Dominguez Hills, Tayler Champion dropped in a game-high 20 points on 7 of 10 shooting, including 4 of 7 from long range. Simone Thompson added 11 in the Toros' victory.
Sonoma State returns to the hardwood on Friday when it plays host to nationally-ranked Cal Poly Pomona at 5:30 pm in The Wolves' Den.
