CARSON, Calif. --
The Sonoma State softball team pounded out a combined 15 runs on 19 hits in Friday's doubleheader, most of which came in game two, en route to victories of 2-1 and 13-6 over host Cal State Dominguez Hills at Toro Diamond in Carson.  The Seawolves rise to 14-10 overall and 8-10 in the CCAA while the Toros fall to 14-14 (8-10 CCAA).

After Megan Konieczka and Amanda Rossetta each batted home a run in the fifth inning of game one and Amanda Llerena allowed just one run on five hits while striking out nine, Sonoma State exploded for seven runs in the top of the first inning in game two and scored in all but two innings the rest of the way to earn a pair of statement victories over Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Konieczka finished the day going 3 for 8 with two doubles, a home run and four RBI, Rossetta went 4 for 6 with a double and an RBI and Leanna Georges, who was hitless in game one, went 3 for 4 with a double, triple, three RBI and two runs scored in game two.

CSUDH's Adriana Sanchez got the scoring started early in the opener, hammering her seventh home run of the season down the left field line and over the fence.  That looked to be plenty of support for Toro starter Jamie Duran until the fifth inning when SSU put the first two runners of the frame on with a Konieczka double tying the game at 1-1.  After a pop up and fielder's choice at home plate, Rossetta drove a single to right field to break the tie.  Llerena then settled down, cruising to the complete-game win, improving to 9-6 this year.

In the nightcap, Konieczka hit her team-leading seventh home run of the season, a three-run shot to score Ashley Long and Hayley CondonHolli Brown later followed with a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to score Keisi Chinen, then Georges cleared the bases with a three-RBI triple to left center, all in the top of the first inning to give SSU the 7-0 lead.

However, the Toros responded with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the first, chasing Sonoma State starter Melissa Smith from the ballgame.  Katy Bihl (2-1) came in to quiet the CSUDH bats and eventually notched the victory after working the final 6.1 innings, allowing three runs on six hits.

The Seawolves continued to pour it on in the third with an RBI double by Long, then two more runs in the fourth on another Brown sacrifice fly and an Alison Strycula single to left center.  In the sixth, Brown lifted yet another sacrifice fly to deep center field for her third RBI of the game via a flyout to put SSU on top 11-4.  In the sixth, Chinen laced a two-run double to left field to complete the 13-run effort for the visiting Seawolves.

Sonoma State and Cal State Dominguez Hills will wrap up the four-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled for 11:00 am.
