GAME 2: Sonoma State 7, Cal State Stanislaus 2 -- Box Score
ROHNERT PARK -- Megan Konieczka continued to terrorize opposing pitchers, delivering a walkoff RBI double in extra innings of game one and smashed her 10th home run of the season in game two to lead the Sonoma State softball team to a pair of wins on Friday at the Seawolf Softball Field in Rohnert Park. The Seawolves (21-11, 12-10 CCAA) have won six straight conference games while the Warriors fall to 10-21 (6-16 CCAA) this season.
Konieczka combined for six hits in Friday's twinbill, going 6 for 9 with two doubles, a home run and four RBI.
Ancia Purdy recorded four hits with a triple, two RBI, three stolen bases and two runs scored.
In the pitching circle,
Amanda Llerena improved to 12-7 this season with a complete-game victory in the opener, allowing just four hits and one unearned run while walking three and striking out eight. The only Cal State Stanislaus to score in game one came in the top of the third inning after a fielding error with two outs and a runner on third.
The Warriors would cling to a 1-0 lead until the bottom of the seventh when
Alison Strycula led off with a single, stole second, moved to third on a groundout, then later scored on a sacrifice fly by
Ashley Long to force extra innings. It wasn't until the bottom of the ninth when Long singled up the middle with one out, then scored from first on a Konieczka double to give the Seawolves the 2-1 win.
Sonoma tallied 10 hits in the ballgame -- three from Konieczka and two each from Long,
Amanda Rossetta and Purdy.
In the nightcap, SSU plated two runs in the bottom of the first on a Konieczka single up the middle to score Purdy, then Konieczka scored on a Rossetta single for the early 2-0 lead. Four more runs came across the plate in the fourth on a two-run single by Purdy, followed by a two-run home run by Konieczka that snuck just inside the left field foul pole for the 6-0 advantage. In the fifth inning, SSU added to its lead with a Strycula RBI single, scoring
Hayley Condon to put the hosts up 7-0.
Cal State Stanislaus finally broke through for a couple of runs in the sixth, but it wouldn't be enough as Sonoma State went on to grab the 7-2 win.
Katy Bihl (5-1) gave up just two hits and two runs (one earned) in six innings of work before giving way to
Melissa Smith in the seventh. Konieczka again led the way offensively, going 3 for 4 with the home run and three runs batted in, upping her season total to 36, which continues to lead the CCAA. Purdy and Strycula added a pair of hits each, as well.
Sonoma State and Cal State Stanislaus will wrap up the four-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at Noon at the Seawolf Softball Field.
