SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. --
The Sonoma State baseball team continued their torrid play on Saturday, sweeping Cal State San Bernardino in a doubleheader to run their conference winning streak to eight in a row.  With their 6-2 and 7-3 wins, the Seawolves moved into first place in the CCAA at 15-4 in conference play (17-10 overall).  The Coyotes saw their losing streak hit six in a row as they fall to 9-24, 7-16 CCAA.  Sonoma goes for the series sweep on Sunday.

GAME ONE

As they have all season, the Seawolves got solid starting pitching in game one as Jon Richards tossed six strong innings, striking out six and walking none.  The win pushed Richards' record to 4-0 on the season.

Sonoma State got out to a 4-0 lead thanks to timely hitting from Daniel Caresio, Jourdan Weiks, and Garrett Schwartz, who all drove in runs in the first five innings.  Steven Moen added an RBI double in the eighth, as well, as the Seawolves pounded out nine hits in the game.

Moen, who had three hits on Friday, ended up 2 for 4 with a pair of runs scored.  Weiks went 3 for 4 with a pair of RBIs and Jackson Stogner laced a couple of singles.

Devin Alexander was superb in relief of Richards, tossing three innings and allowing one hit.

GAME TWO

Game two saw the Seawolves jump out to a 1-0 lead in the first on a Stogner sacrifice fly.  They pushed the lead to 4-0 in the third when Stogner struck again.  Moved down to the three-spot in the lineup, Stogner responded with power, pounding a three-run home run to stake Sonoma starter Haydon Turpin to a four-run lead.  Stogner finished the game with a career-high five runs batted in.

Cal State San Bernardino got three runs back in their half of the third, but that's all they'd manage against Turpin and eventual winning pitcher, Anthony Pezzola.  Turpin was removed after throwing 2.1 innings and giving up three runs (just one of them earned).  Pezzola was masterful in relief, yielding only a single hit in 4.2 innings.

Weiks had a pair of hits to lead the six-hit attack.

The Seawolves will go for their second consecutive four-game CCAA sweep on Sunday at 11:00 am.
