Sonoma State 8, Dominican 4 -- Box ScoreTURLOCK, Calif. -- Amanda Llerena earned two victories and struckout 22 batters in two of the Sonoma State softball team's three games on Saturday to help the Seawolves to their 13th straight victory and a berth into the Tournament of Champions' Gold Bracket for the second consecutive year after wins over Academy of Art (9-7), No. 2 Cal Baptist (4-3) and Dominican (8-4) to close out pool play at the 13th annual event, hosted by Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock. Sonoma improves to 29-11 this season, and in addition to their 13th straight win, it has won 19 of its last 21 games.
The Seawolves will face Western Washington in the Gold Bracket semifinal at 12:15 pm on Field 1 of the Pedretti Regional Sports Complex in Turlock. The winner of that game will play the winner of the other semifinal game between Dominican and Humboldt State on Sunday at 2:30 pm. SSU lost to Humboldt State in last year's Gold Bracket semifinal, 1-0. The only Gold Bracket title -- the overall tournament championship -- for the Seawolves came in 2010 when they knocked off Central Washington, 11-1. Sonoma also captured a Platinum Bracket championship in 2012.
Since taking over the program in 2010, head coach
Jennifer Bridges has led Sonoma State to a 27-5 record in the Tournament of Champions, including a 22-3 mark in pool play. In eight prior appearances in the annual TOC, the Seawolves had gone just 20-23.

After surviving a late-inning rally by Academy of Art, in which the Urban Knights plated five runs in the top of the seventh, holding on to a 9-7 win to open day two, Sonoma State went to battle with the second-ranked team in the nation, California Baptist. It would be a see-saw battle, but the Seawolves rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and held on to win 4-3. In the fifth and final game of pool play, SSU opened up a 5-0 lead on Dominican after three innings and it would prove to be enough to earn the 8-4 win.
In the three games combined,
Megan Konieczka led the way offensively, going 6 for 12 with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored.
Ashley Long pounded out five hits in 10 at bats with a double, four RBI and three runs scored while
Amanda Rossetta,
Alison Strycula,
Hayley Condon and
Leanna Georges each had four hits. Llerena earned the wins against Cal Baptist and Dominican after
Melissa Smith took home the win over Academy of Art Saturday morning.
For the tournament, Sonoma State is leading the 24-team event in batting average (.409), slugging percentage (.533), on base percentage (.454), runs scored (37), hits (56) and total bases (73).
