SAN JOSE, Calif. - Sonoma State Women's Basketball opened its 2016-2017 season with an exhibition game against San Jose State University. The Seawolves bowed to the Spartans 105-71.
As a team, the Sonoma had more boards than their opponent 49-36. Sophomore forward,
Kim Savio lead the team with 15 rebounds. Sophomore point guard
Kayla Coloyan scored the team high of 12 points, and Savio was close behind with 11. Junior guard
Madison Burroughs and junior center
Molly Donovan chipped in 8 points a piece, respectively. Burroughs also had 5 assists.
The Seawolves have their home opener Thursday in an exhibition match against the Pacific Union Pioneers. The game is scheduled for 7pm in the Wolves' Den.
Sonoma State began the game ahead of the San Jose State, but lost the lead at the tail end of the first quarter which ended 20-16.
The second quarter was off to a rough start with the Seawolves committing 3 turnovers within the first two minutes. At one point the team was down by 40-21, but went on a 9-1 run and closed the gap to 11 before the end of the first half, ending it 41-30.
In the third quarter, the Spartans had 12 fast breaks and widened their lead to 27. The quarter ended 76-47.
The fourth quarter saw a handful of Seawolf three pointers and they continued to rebound well. However, the Spartans won the game 105-71.
