STOCKTON, Calif. -- If pre-season results are any indication, the Sonoma State men's soccer team proved that they're on the right track. On Saturday night, the Seawolves went toe-to-toe with the University of the Pacific before falling 1-0 on a 78th minute Tiger goal.
"Considering we are less than a week in I was happy with our performance," said head coach Marcus Ziemer. "We have a lot to work on, but this was a good start."
The Seawolves and Tigers played to a scoreless draw through the first 60 minutes before SSU began a series of scripted substitutions. Sonoma was also able to create several promising chances, including a 1-v-1 in extra time that would have tied the game.
Said Ziemer, "UOP is a solid team and very organized and well coached so this was a good test for us."
While Sonoma was outshot by UOP 14-6, they did hold a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Seawolves are back in action on Tuesday against in a scrimmage against Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont.
