ROHNERT PARK, CALIF. - Sonoma State's
Griffin Pace won his first collegiate tournament en route to being named the CCAA Men's Golfer of the Week, for the week of Oct. 5-11.
Pace shot an 11-under par 205 to win the Wildcat Classic at the Peach Tree Golf & Country Club in Marysville on Tuesday. He led the Seawolves to a third place team finish in a tight race for top three in the tournament hosted by Chico State.
The senior from Irvine shot a pair of tournament-low 66s on Monday to rise to the top of the leaderboard after two rounds. Pace then carded a 73 to hold off the rest of the field for his first tournament win. In all, Pace recorded a season high 16 birdies in the 54-hole tournament for his best career finish.
Sonoma State finished two shots behind host Chico State and one back of runner-up Simon Fraser. The rest of the field were at least 16 strokes behind the Seawolves.
This was Pace's third conference Golfer of the Week award during his Seawolf career as he earned the honor last March at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational in Turlock. He also shared the award for his first time on Sept. 18, 2019 with teammate
Devin Gregg.
