Sablan, Stewart & Kroeker Lead Seawolves to Second Place Finish at Nighthawk Invitational

PLEASANTON, CALIF.- Sonoma State Men's Golf submitted a well rounded effort this past week at the Nighthawk Invitational at the Callippe Preserve Golf Course. Three players would land among the top seven while another two would place inside the top 20. Lead by the trio of Ivan Sablan, Ryan Stewart and Cole Kroeker the Seawolves finished just three strokes behind first place as a team.

Ivan Sablan was once again the Seawolves leading player on the leaderboards and brought home a second place individual finish. Across the three days of play Sablan steadily improved each round culminating in a strong final day on the course that saw him shoot two under par and move up  seven spots in the individual standings. He finished the tournament with 10 birdies and had his highlight of the weekend on day three where he knocked in an eagle on the third hole of the day. Sablan has now secured three top 10 finishes this year as an individual.

Meanwhile, the duo of Ryan Stewart and Cole Kroeker would tie with both finishing in seventh place. Stewart played three days of steady and consistent golf. He only was able to finish with six birdies but he rarely shot over par finishing 39 holes on par. His best day of play came during round two where he shot even and had three birdies. Cole Kroeker started off the tournament hot and carried that momentum through the second day of play. Kroeker had two eagles on the back nine during the first day to go along with three birdies. On the second day he started hot once again with a pair of eagles on the front nine.

Rounding out the Seawolves top 20 players were Jack Brown and John Sprague. Sprague finished 15th after an up and down showing on the first day of play. He rallied on day two shooting just one over par. Brown also finished the tournament strong, shooting just one over par including three birdies on the front nine and shooting on par for all but one hole on the back nine.

The Seawolves will be right back in action in just a few days as they gear up to partake in the Pioneer Shootout hosted by CCAA rival Cal State East Bay!
