ROHNERT PARK, CALIF. - On Monday morning, May 9th, the 2022 NCAA D-II softball selection show announced the Sonoma State Seawolves as the #4 seed in the west region, giving them their 13th NCAA appearance in program history. Head coach
Jennifer Bridges continues to stack up the accolades as she records her 10th tournament appearance dating back to her first season as head coach back in 2010.
The Seawolves just seem to be built for postseason softball as they captured their second straight CCAA Tournament title yesterday afternoon as they defeated Cal State Monterey Bay, 10-5 in the championship game. SSU finished 3rd in the regular season, ranking as their best regular season finish since 2016. With the conference tournament field expanding to 6 teams, the Seawolves were able to go 4-0 and win the title with the most direct route possible.
SSU would also take some records down along the way as they smashed the single game runs record in game one of the tournament, scoring 16 runs in their win over Cal State East Bay. They would go on to finish the tournament after their 10-5 victory in the title game with 44 total runs, smashing the tournament total runs record by 14 runs.
Reagan Hunt,
Skylar Linnane, and
Cassidy Romano would all earn All-Conference team honors with catcher
Jordyn Martinez being named tournament MVP. Martinez would tie the tournament home run record with 3 on the weekend and finish the tournament with 8 hits.
The drama will continue into the NCAA West Regional as SSU drew the #4 seed, putting them in the same side of the bracket with Cal State San Marcos and Cal State Monterey Bay. With the Cougars earning the one seed, the Otters would qualify for the tournament as the #5 seed, presenting a rematch between Sonoma State and Cal State Monterey Bay in the first round. Bridges and her group will head down to southern California as Cal State San Marcos will play host for the first round of the regional. Game times, locations, media links, and more can all be found at sonomaseawolves.com on the softball schedule page.
Sonoma State will enter the tournament in fantastic form as they have won 29 of their last 33 games to this date, and finished the conference regular season 22-2 in their final 24 CCAA games.
