WAIMEA, HI. - On Tuesday, October 24th, the Sonoma State men's golf team wrapped up competition in their first of two events in Hawaii at the HPU Sharks Shootout. The three round event took place at Mauna Lani Golf Course in Waimea. The Seawolves got off to another hot start in the opening round on Monday, a common trend we have seen this fall season. Second year golfer
Colin Huang would record a historic 8-under round, going down as the second lowest individual round in program history. Huang was stellar all round long finishing with a tournament high 7 birdies and an eagle on the par 5 15th.
Adding to the team's round one performance was senior
Lucas Happy who put together an impressive 67 (-5) with four birdies and an eagle of his own on the par 5 2nd.
Ryan Stewart and
Cole Kroeker would be the other two counting scores for Sonoma State, giving them a first round score of 281 (-7).
The rest of the field would catch up in the afternoon though as the Seawolves failed to put together a single round under par, finishing the day with a 305 (+17) to fall out of the top five. Happy and Stewart would each record rounds of 3-over-par to lead the way.
On Tuesday, the Seawolves would hold firm inside the top-10 of a competitive 17-team field and shave off 11 strokes to finish in 8th place. Helping keep SSU inside the top-10 was none other than
Colin Huang who put together another brilliant round of golf. Huang had a bogey free card which included three birdies and another eagle. His three birdies would come in his final three holes to put him back on top of the individual leaderboard. He would finish in a tie at 9-under with a fellow CCAA golfer from Dominguez Hills.
Lucas Happy and
Cole Kroeker each concluded the tournament with rounds of 3-under-par and
Jack Brown would be the fourth counting score at 5-over, his low round of the week. Full tournament scores can be found
